David Corenswet was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He briefly attended the University of Pennsylvania before transferring to New York City to study at the prestigious Juilliard School, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama in 2016. His education at Juilliard set the foundation for his burgeoning acting career.

His first major role came in the 2018 political thriller Affairs of State. He followed this with guest appearances in hit TV shows such as House of Cards, Elementary, and Instinct. However, his breakthrough came in the Netflix series The Politician (2019–2020), where he played River Barkley.
