Rohit Shetty, the mastermind behind the successful cop cinematic universe, has revealed plans for a standalone film featuring Deepika Padukone as Shakti Shetty. This universe, which includes Singham, Singham Returns, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, led by Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar respectively, has seen immense success.
In the upcoming project, Singham Again, Deepika Padukone makes her debut as Shakti Shetty, a brutal and violent police officer. This marks the first instance of a female cop in Shetty’s films. Despite the film boasting a star-studded cast, Shetty has revealed that the actress holds a pivotal role.
In a recent interview with ANI, Rohit Shetty shared that Deepika Padukone holds a significant role in Singham Again, and he intends to create a standalone film dedicated to her character. “She is like one of the heroes and what we are doing with it is that we will go with her story. We will make a film which has only Deepika…it is her story… Like Sooryavanshi, Singham and Simmba, the films had already been made and people knew about them but with Singham Again we are introducing these characters and then we will tell their stories,” he stated.
Singham Again features an impressive ensemble cast, including Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Kareena Kapoor Khan, among others. Collaborating with such renowned names in a single film is no easy feat, but Rohit Shetty, having worked with most of them, shared insights into how he convinced them to join the project. Notably, he referred to Tiger Shroff as the new addition to the force, emphasizing that the actors trust him not just for business reasons but also believe they won’t be misused.
Discussing the trend of large ensemble casts, Shetty acknowledged the influence of Marvel’s universe. He highlighted how actors now understand that such films don’t significantly impact their individual stardom, and audiences are accustomed to and enjoy these multi-starrer films.
Known as the king of action and comedy, Shetty also emphasized the importance of cultural continuity in characters across films. For instance, the specific dialect used by Ranveer’s character in Simmba needed to be consistent throughout the series. Shetty believes that the audience, being more aware, already has a strong connection with these characters.
This news marks a significant milestone in Bollywood, as it paves the way for more female-led action films. Fans of Deepika Padukone and Rohit Shetty’s cop universe are eagerly awaiting more updates on this exciting development.
