Dennis Quaid, 71, has shared rare details about his marriage to Laura Savoie, 32, calling their relationship the “closest” he has ever had. The couple, who met in 2019 and eloped in 2020, ignore criticism about their age gap, focusing instead on their strong bond.
Dennis Quaid and Laura Savoieโs Love Story
Dennis Quaid and Laura Savoie first met at a business event in 2019. Savoie, then a student pursuing her second masterโs degree, immediately caught Quaidโs attention. The actor described it as “love at first sight.”
“Laura’s the love of my life. She came along and we have a bond with one another that I never had with anybody else before. It’s a joy of life that we share together.”
They got engaged in October 2019 and planned a wedding in Hawaii. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they instead eloped in Santa Barbara in June 2020 with only their pastor present.
Why Their Age Gap Doesnโt Matter
Quaid and Savoie have a 39-year age difference, but the actor says they donโt focus on it.
“I haven’t spoken out about the age difference of my wife. Other people have. ButโฆI really don’t think about it. She’s just the light of my life.”
Quaid explained that he wasnโt looking for a younger partner. Their connection happened naturally.
“I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me. I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed. You have no control over who you fall in love with.”
Their Life Together
The couple runs a production company, Bonniedale Films, founded in 2021. Savoie, a former certified public accountant, also holds a real estate license and is a registered yoga instructor.
Quaid, who was previously married to P.J. Soles, Meg Ryan, and Kimberly Buffington, says this marriage feels different.
“I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is. I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
Savoie has also spoken about their relationship, saying Quaidโs positivity inspires her.
“I’ve never met someone who is so in love with life. It’s like nothing can bring him down. Just getting to do life with someone who lives that way is inspiring for me.”
How They Handle Public Opinion
Despite some criticism, the couple stays unfazed. Quaid told The Guardian that the attention on their age gap was “really a laugh.”
“Everyone comes from the perspective of their own life, so I canโt comment on the way they feel; I canโt even get angry.”
Their shared Christian faith has also strengthened their relationship.
“Weโre both Christians, and right from the start God has always had a hand in the relationship. I think thatโs where the real strength comes from.”
Whatโs Next for the Couple
Quaid and Savoie live in Nashville and continue to work together. They have expressed interest in starting a family, though no official plans have been confirmed.
