The wait for more chaos, laughter, and honest friendship drama is almost over. Channel 4 has officially set the return date for Big Mood Season 2, bringing back Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West for another round of the critically praised comedy. The network also dropped a new trailer and confirmed that fresh cast members Hannah Onslow and Rupert Everett are joining the lineup, giving viewers a clear look at whatโ€™s ahead when the show comes back this spring.

The six-episode second season will premiere on Channel 4 on Thursday, April 16. For viewers in the United States and Canada, the series will also be available on Tubi, continuing the partnership that brought the first season to North American audiences. The announcement comes with a brand new trailer showing where Maggie and Eddie stand after a year of silence.

A Year Later: Maggie Faces Competition for Eddieโ€™s Friendship

Big Mood Season 2 picks up twelve months after the tense ending of the first series. The season one finale left the longtime best friends separated, with Eddie (Lydia West) getting into a cab and leaving Maggie (Nicola Coughlan) on the pavement after years of navigating mental health struggles and the weight of their friendship.

The new season finds Maggie and Eddie having had no contact for an entire year. When Eddie suddenly returns for a wedding, she does not come back alone. She brings along a new companion named Whitney, played by Hannah Onslow. Whitney is described as an infuriatingly positive spiritual healer who immediately becomes competition for Maggieโ€™s place in Eddieโ€™s life.

Channel 4โ€™s official synopsis for the season poses the central question: โ€œCan Maggie and her special brand of chaos find space in Eddieโ€™s new life? Or will Maggie lose Eddie forever?โ€ The tension between the three women sets up a season focused on whether a friendship that survived so much can be rebuilt after a year of silence.

Fresh Faces and Returning Favorites Join the Cast

The second season brings back several familiar faces alongside Coughlan and West. Returning cast members include Robert Gilbert as Will, Eamon Farren as Krent, Niamh Cusack as Gillian, Amalia Vitale as Anya, Luke Fetherston as Ryan, Rebecca Lowman as Vanessa, Stephen Sobal as Owen, and Kate Fleetwood as Clara.

New additions to the cast include a mix of established names and rising talents. Hannah Onslow joins as Whitney, the spiritual healer who creates friction between Maggie and Eddie. Rupert Everett has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Robert Lindsay, known for his work in My Family, is also part of the new lineup.

Other newcomers include Marina Bye, Marcus Collins, Munroe Bergdorf, Kyran Thrax (winner of RuPaulโ€™s Drag Race UK season six), Lois Chimimba, Kelly Campbell, Leo Wan, Zachary Hart, and John Locke.

What Made the First Season a Hit

The first season of Big Mood became Channel 4โ€™s most-watched new comedy launch since Derry Girls, the show that first made Nicola Coughlan a household name. The series follows Maggie and Eddie, two women in their thirties living in London, whose ten-year friendship is tested when Maggieโ€™s bipolar disorder surfaces and Eddie begins questioning whether their relationship can survive the challenges.

Speaking about the tone of the show during the first season, Nicola Coughlan explained the balance the series tries to strike.

โ€œI think one of the things I knew that was important to me is that even though the show deals with difficult stuff, Camilla (Whitehill) said itโ€™s a comedy. Itโ€™s so brilliantly balanced by how much you have these proper laugh out loud moments and then the next scene, youโ€™re crying.โ€

She added that the dialogue felt authentic to her real-life friendships. โ€œI love that it felt very true to her voice. Itโ€™s also very much in the vernacular of how her and I and our friends speak to one another, so it felt very real.โ€

Behind the Scenes: The Creative Team Returns

Big Mood is written and created by Camilla Whitehill, who returns for the second season. Rebecca Asher, whose credits include Brooklyn 99, is back as director. The executive producer team includes Lotte Beasley Mestriner, Laurence Bowen, and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions. Whitehill, Asher, Coughlan, and West also serve as executive producers on the new season. Nadia Jaynes joins as producer.

The series is produced by Dancing Ledge Productions for Channel 4 and in co-production with Tubi. The first season remains available to stream on Channel 4 in the UK and Tubi in the US and Canada.

The Big Mood Season 2 Premiere Brought the Cast Together

Before the April release date, the cast gathered for the Big Mood season two premiere at the BFI Southbank in London. The event gave fans a first look at the cast together. Nicola Coughlan attended in a black leather jacket styled as a mini dress, paired with matching tights and heels. Lydia West wore a black suit with an open-toe heel. Hannah Onslow chose a long-sleeved burgundy midi dress with brown knee-high boots. Robert Lindsay was also present at the screening.

The premiere came after Coughlan spoke in a recent interview about her approach to body image discussions. She shared that she finds conversations focused solely on her appearance โ€œboringโ€ and prefers to focus on the work itself rather than physical commentary.

How to Watch Big Mood Season 2

Big Mood Season 2 will begin airing on Channel 4 on Thursday, April 16. All six episodes are expected to follow the premiere. For viewers in the United States and Canada, the season will be available on Tubi. Specific release timing for the Tubi premiere has not been detailed, but the platform is set to carry the series as part of the co-production arrangement.

The first season remains available for streaming on both platforms for those who want to catch up or revisit Maggie and Eddieโ€™s story before the new episodes arrive.
