Disney+ is adding a major collection of Korean entertainment to its service in Japan through a new partnership with CJ ENM’s streaming platform TVING. The deal will make up to 60 of TVING’s most popular original shows available to Japanese subscribers, significantly expanding Disney+‘s Korean content library. This collaboration represents TVING’s first entry into the Japanese market.

Starting November 5, 2025, Disney+ Japan began rolling out TVING’s top-rated series. The launch is headlined by the new thriller “Dear X,” which started streaming on November 6, the same day it premiered in Korea.

What the New Partnership Offers

The multi-year agreement makes Disney+ Japan the exclusive streaming home for a wide selection of TVING’s biggest hits. Japanese viewers can now access beloved Korean dramas including “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and “Reply 1988.”

To make these shows easy to find, Disney+ Japan has added special branded sections to its platform. Subscribers will see a “TVING Highlights” feature on the main page and a dedicated “TVING Collection” hub where all the Korean content is gathered in one place. This marks the first time Disney+ has created a dedicated brand hub for a local streamer in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new thriller “Dear X,” starring Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, and Kim Do-hoon, exemplifies the partnership’s strategy. Its simultaneous release in both Korea and Japan demonstrates a commitment to bringing fresh content to audiences at the same time.

Why This Deal Matters for Both Companies

For Disney+, this partnership significantly strengthens its position in Japan’s competitive streaming market. Japan is the most valuable streaming market in the Asia-Pacific region, and this move helps Disney+ compete more effectively against other global services.

Tamotsu Hiiro, Managing Director of The Walt Disney Company Japan, explained the thinking behind the deal: “As we celebrate five years of Disney+ in Japan, we remain committed to expanding our content offerings to reflect the diverse preferences of audiences. This collaboration with CJ ENM and TVING is a significant step forward in that journey. By combining CJ ENM and TVING’s compelling Korean storytelling with Disney+’s world-class portfolio of global blockbusters and local hits, we’re creating a richer viewing experience for viewers of all generations.”

For TVING, this partnership provides a strategic entry into the Japanese market without the substantial cost and risk of building its own platform from scratch. Julie Choi, CEO of TVING, stated: “Our partnership with Disney, which has a strong presence and deep history in Japan, is an opportunity to most effectively present TVING content to local viewers. Through this partnership with Disney, we aim to grow beyond Korea’s No. 1 OTT into a truly global K-OTT platform.”

Global Streaming Landscape

This agreement reflects a growing trend of global streaming platforms forming partnerships with regional content specialists rather than trying to build all content internally. For TVING, it follows a similar recent deal with Warner Bros. Discovery that will bring its content to HBO Max across multiple Asian territories in 2026.

Tony Zameczkowski, Senior Vice President for Disney in Asia Pacific, described the collaboration as “a pivotal moment in our regional content and partnership strategy. As Korean storytelling continues to captivate global audiences, we’re proud to bring CJ ENM and TVING’s most compelling series to Disney+ viewers in Japan. This partnership not only strengthens our Korean content offering but is the beginning of a broader opportunity to deepen our connection with audiences in one of the world’s most dynamic streaming markets.”

The TVING content adds to Disney+’s existing Korean programming, which includes popular originals like “Moving,” “The Worst of Evil,” and “Tempest.” This partnership represents a significant expansion of Korean content available to Japanese viewers through the Disney+ platform.
