The Cast Reunites After Two Decades
The reunion special gathers the surviving core cast members for a candid look back at the show that ended in 2005. The event includes Brad Garrett (Robert Barone), Patricia Heaton (Debra Barone), and Monica Horan (Amy MacDougall) . Madylin Sweeten and Sullivan Sweeten, who played Ray and Debra’s children Ally and Michael, will also be part of the special .
The special will also honor the late cast members who were pillars of the show. It will include a moving tribute to Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle, who played the iconic meddling mother Marie and curmudgeonly father Frank . The special is also expected to address the passing of Sawyer Sweeten, who played Geoffrey, one of the twin sons .
The reunion has been a long time in the making. Phil Rosenthal mentioned he had been trying to organize a reunion for about ten years.
“I’ve been trying to have a reunion special for 10 years, I was ready to do the 20th anniversary, I was ready to do the 25th anniversary, but there wasn’t an appetite for it at CBS,” Rosenthal said .
The timing of this 30th-anniversary special, which comes 29 years after the show’s 1996 premiere, is linked to the 30th anniversary of Ray Romano’s pivotal appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, which led to the sitcom deal .
Remembering an Emmy-Winning Legacy
Everybody Loves Raymond left a significant mark on television during its nine-season run. The series amassed 69 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won 15, including two for Outstanding Comedy Series .

No Reboot Planned for the Beloved Sitcom
Despite the excitement around the reunion, fans should not expect the show to return in a reboot. Both Ray Romano and Brad Garrett have firmly stated that a revival will not happen, primarily because of the absence of the actors who played Frank and Marie Barone.
“The obvious is Peter and Doris and one of the kids โ theyโre no longer with us,” Romano told The New York Post. “Weโre all heartbroken. Theyโre a big part of the show, the dynamic. Without them, I donโt know what the dynamic is. We love the show too much, we respect it too much to even try to do it” .
Brad Garrett echoed this sentiment, stating, “There is no show without the parents. They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn’t be right to the audiences or to the loyal fan base” .
