Former BTOB member Jung Ilhoon is back in the spotlight after nearly five years, releasing a new track titled “Lullaby” on November 21. This marks his first music release since 2019 and comes after his drug-related scandal that shook the K-pop industry.
A Personal and Emotional Journey
Jung revealed that “Lullaby” was created during a period of deep self-reflection. He described the song as an honest portrayal of his thoughts and emotions, aiming to reconnect with his authentic self. Sharing his feelings on streaming platforms, Jung said the track represents a transformative moment in his life and expressed gratitude for the continued support of his fans.
Through his social media accounts, Jung thanked those who stood by him despite the controversy. He called the release day a “long-awaited moment” and emphasized how meaningful it was to return to music.
The 2020 Drug Scandal
Jung Ilhoon’s career took a drastic turn in 2020 when he was found guilty of habitual marijuana use over several years. At the time, he was completing mandatory military service as a social service worker.
The revelations led to his expulsion from BTOB, a group he debuted with in 2012, and sparked widespread criticism in South Korea, where drug use is heavily stigmatized. Initially sentenced to two years in prison, his term was later suspended, sparing him additional jail time but leaving a lasting stain on his reputation.
