Prime Video has renewed Fallout for a third season before the second season even premieres. The announcement came during Amazon’s annual upfront presentation in New York City. Fans can expect Fallout Season 2 in December 2025, with Season 3 already in the works.

The show, based on Bethesda’s popular video game series, has become one of Prime Video’s biggest hits. Season 1 attracted over 100 million viewers worldwide, making it one of the platform’s top three most-watched titles. The early renewal for Season 3 shows Amazon’s strong confidence in the series.

Fallout follows survivors in a post-apocalyptic world 200 years after a nuclear war. The story centers on Lucy MacLean, a vault dweller who ventures into the dangerous wasteland to find her kidnapped father. Along the way, she meets allies like Maximus and the Ghoul, each with their own dark pasts.

Season 2 will continue right after the events of Season 1’s finale. Lucy and the Ghoul are expected to journey through the Mojave Wasteland to reach New Vegas. The city, a fan-favorite location from Fallout: New Vegas, will play a major role in the upcoming season.

The show’s executive producers, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, shared their excitement about the renewal.

“The holidays came a little early this year—we are thrilled to be ending the world all over again for a third season of Fallout,” they said in a joint statement.

Walton Goggins, who plays the Ghoul, has teased that Season 2 will be even bigger than the first.

“I thought season one was extraordinary, personally. This blows it out of the water,” he told Deadline.

Season 2 finished filming in early May 2025, with the cast celebrating the wrap on social media. Leaked set photos suggest key locations from the games, including Dinky the T-Rex and the Lucky 38 casino, will appear. Deathclaws, one of the franchise’s most feared creatures, are also confirmed for the new season.

Macaulay Culkin joins the cast in an undisclosed role, described as a “crazy genius-type character.” Aaron Paul has also expressed interest in appearing, though no official casting has been confirmed.

The first season of Fallout received critical praise for its performances, visuals, and faithfulness to the games. It earned 17 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and a nod for Walton Goggins as Best Lead Actor.
