What Is Frisco King About?
Samuel L. Jackson stars as Russell Lee Washington Jr. , a character first introduced in the third season of Tulsa King last fall . The character has a history in the crime world and befriended Sylvester Stalloneโs character, Dwight Manfredi, during a decade-long stay in federal prison .
The show was originally developed under the title NOLA King and was going to be set in New Orleans . Creator Taylor Sheridan decided to move the location to Frisco, Texas, which led to the title change .
In the series, Washington returns to his hometown after 42 years away. He aims to reconnect with his family and take control of the city. This move puts him in conflict with his former employers in New York and old enemies in New Orleans .
Taylor Sheridan Takes Over Writing Duties
In a significant creative shift, Taylor Sheridan will now write all eight episodes of the first season . He was originally not set to write the spinoff, but Paramount+ announced the change in late February 2026 .
โWe are honored to have Taylor Sheridan write the first season of Frisco King and bring to life Samuel L. Jacksonโs iconic character,โ said Matt Thunell, President of Paramount Television Studios .
Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+, added: โTaylor Sheridan continues to build worlds that attract some of the most iconic talent working today, and Frisco King is no exception. Having Samuel L. Jackson step into this universe is a testament to the scale and ambition of the storytelling Taylor is craftingโ .
Who Is Directing and Producing?
Christina Alexandra Voros will direct the pilot episode, with Michael Friedman also directing multiple episodes . Both have worked with Sheridan on past projects .
The executive producer lineup includes Taylor Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone, and Samuel L. Jackson. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Voros, Friedman, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Keith Cox also serve as executive producers .
Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios are producing the series .
When Will Frisco King Premiere?
No premiere date has been announced yet . The series is still in pre-production, with filming set to begin in late March 2026 in Fort Worth, Texas . Given this timeline, the show likely wonโt arrive on Paramount+ until late 2026 or early 2027.
