“Freedom tastes sweet, doesn’t it?” This question seems to resonate with actress Han So Hee, who recently ended her relationship with actor Ryu Jun Yeol. The news of their breakup came to light after a tourist spotted them on vacation.
The relationship, confirmed amid a conflict with Ryu Jun Yeol’s ex-girlfriend, Hyeri, was short-lived and filled with drama. Han So Hee later posted a scathing blog comment directed at Ryu Jun Yeol, which she subsequently deleted. The comment was made on a photo of a woman with an expression of liberation on her face.
The woman in the photo is none other than Nicole Kidman, an actress known for her roles in projects like The Stepford Wives and Moulin Rouge. Kidman, who has been married to singer Keith Urban for around 18 years, was previously married to actor Tom Cruise. The couple, who were married in 1990 and adopted two children together, ended their marriage in 2001 when Cruise filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Over the years, Kidman has attributed the reason for their divorce to her being “too young” and their dependency on each other. Many also believe that Cruise’s connection to Scientology, a religion widely regarded as a cult, was the true cause. His relationship with Katie Holmes afterward was also implied to have ended because of his religion.
However, the end of her marriage seems to have been a turning point for Kidman. Photos taken of her leaving her lawyer’s office after finalizing her divorce, including the one that Han So Hee included in her blog, show a visibly relieved Kidman. After her divorce, Kidman experienced great success, including winning an Oscar Award.
Han So Hee, who appears to be happy to be free of the relationship and its surrounding drama, seems to echo Kidman’s visible relief. Just like Kidman, who was once accused of “ruining” actor Jude Law’s relationship, allegations she met with swift legal action, So Hee too has had her share of controversy.
In an interview in 2004, Kidman said, “Since my divorce, I lean, consciously or not, toward characters who are strong women taking control of their destiny, personal and professional”. This sentiment seems to resonate with So Hee, who, like Kidman, is a strong woman taking control of her destiny.
As we watch So Hee navigate her post-breakup life, we can’t help but wonder if she, like Kidman, will experience similar success after the breakup. Only time will tell. But for now, it seems that both women are enjoying their taste of freedom.
