Apple TV has not renewed Hijack for a third season. The streamer remains silent on the future of the thriller series starring Idris Elba. The second season concluded on March 4, 2026, and fans are now waiting for an official decision from the network.
The show follows Sam Nelson, a skilled negotiator who keeps finding himself in the middle of terrifying hostage situations. Season 1 took place on a hijacked plane. Season 2 moved the action to a trapped underground train in Berlin.
No Official Word From Apple TV Yet
As of March 2026, Apple has not canceled or renewed the show . The platform typically takes time to analyze viewership data before making announcements. After Season 1 ended in August 2023, the renewal for Season 2 did not come until January 2024 . That means fans could wait several months for news about Season 3.
The second season premiered on January 14, 2026, and ran for eight episodes . Reviews remained strong, with critics praising the real-time tension and Elba’s performance. Rotten Tomatoes scores hold steady for both seasons .
What The Creator Says About Hijack Season 3
Jim Field Smith, who created the show with George Kay, spoke about continuing the story. He told TV Insider that he needed to finish Season 2 first before thinking about what comes next .
“I need to finish Season 2, so talk to me again when I’ve actually finished making this season,” Smith said. “One thing I will need to do is have a bit of a sit down and have no one ask me any questions or talk to me or put anything in front of me for a few months” .
He remains open to more adventures for Sam Nelson. “Could Sam Nelson find himself having another of the worst days of his life? I’m sure he could,” Smith added. “He seems to be a guy that stumbles into bad luck, and I love working with Idris” .
Season 2 Wrapped On March 4 2026
The Season 2 finale dropped on March 4, 2026 . The season followed Sam as he boarded a Berlin U-Bahn train that gets taken over by hostage-takers. Unlike the first season where he was a passenger forced to act, this time his character arrived in the city with personal motives tied to past events .
The show expanded its cast for the second season. New faces included Toby Jones, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Lisa Vicari, and Christiane Paul . Returning cast members included Christine Adams, Max Beesley, and Archie Panjabi .
Could There Be A Season 3
Industry observers believe the show has good chances for renewal. Apple has invested heavily in the series, and it remains one of the streamers popular originals . The concept also allows for fresh stories each season. Sam could face a hijacking on a ship, in a building, or another confined space .
The production team built the second season around the idea of opposites. After the open skies of Season 1, they went underground for Season 2 . A third season could explore a completely different environment.
Smith explained the creative process behind the shows direction. Speaking to Televisual, he said the team wanted to push the format somewhere new. “We didn’t want to come back for the sake of it,” he stated. “We needed a strong motivation for Sam Nelson himself to be back, to give us the motivation to bring him back”.
