The mystery surrounding Roman’s disappearance is heating up, and Morgan just solved one of the most unexpected murder cases yet. High Potential Season 2 Episode 15, titled “Pie in the Sky,” delivered a wild ride involving a poisoned pie, a beloved astronaut, and a killer twist that nobody saw coming. Meanwhile, Selena Soto came face to face with the mysterious Willa Quinn in New York, setting the stage for an explosive season finish. With only a few episodes left, the stakes have never been higher for the Major Crimes team.

Here is everything you need to know about what went down in Episode 15 and when you can catch the next episode.

The Astronaut Murder That Shocked Everyone

The episode opened with a tragic scene at the Biltmore Hotel. Renowned retired astronaut Theodore “Teddy” Barrow (played by Travis Schuldt) was signing autographs for fans when a woman suddenly ran up and smashed a pie in his face. What seemed like a silly prank turned deadly when Teddy collapsed and died on the spot.

His fiancรฉe Heidi Choi (Catherine Haena Kim) was right there with him, completely helpless as the man she loved fell to the ground. The attacker ran off before anyone could stop her.

Back at the precinct, Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) and the team jumped on the case. Oz (Deniz Akdeniz) and Daphne (Javicia Leslie) secured the crime scene while Morgan studied the hotel carpet. Her sharp eyes noticed something everyone else missedโ€”the attacker wore track spikes.

Morgan identified the exact shoes as belonging to St. Emily’s Women’s College track team. She even pinpointed the runner: Arden Prescott (Lindsay Elton), the only athlete on the team fast enough to sprint away in 11 seconds.

When Morgan and Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) found Arden in her dorm room, things got complicated fast. The young woman had no idea the pie was poisoned. She explained someone contacted her through social media, pretending to be from a viral prank channel called FollyBox. They sent her the pie, a mask, gloves, and instructions.

Arden thought she was just pulling a harmless prank for a YouTube channel. Instead, she became an unknowing pawn in a murder plot.

The Poison and the Space Connection

Lab results revealed the pie contained VX nerve agent, a deadly chemical weapon. Morgan immediately recognized it from the movie The Rock. But this was not movie stuffโ€”this was real, and it meant the killer had serious connections.

The team dug deeper into Teddy’s life. He was scheduled to give a keynote speech endorsing AstraMollis, a private company bidding on a multi-billion dollar contract for a commercial space station. At first, everyone suspected a rival company silenced Teddy to stop the endorsement.

Oz and Daphne visited Mr. Bashayan from GalaxyArk, AstraMollis’s competitor. But Bashayan seemed genuinely surprised to learn about Teddy’s planned endorsement. He pointed out that nobody had seen the speech in advance, which meant the rival company could not have known what Teddy planned to say.

That left the team back at square one.

Heidi’s Secret and the Real Motive

Morgan noticed something off about Heidi. She kept insisting on delivering Teddy’s keynote speech herself the next day, saying she wanted to honor his memory. But Morgan sensed something deeper.

During a second visit to Heidi’s house, Morgan found Teddy’s prepared speech. But when Heidi later provided a copy of the “updated” version she planned to deliver, Morgan compared the two. Something did not add up.

The key clue came from an unexpected source: Elliot (Matthew Lamb). Morgan’s son was a huge fan of Teddy and had even exchanged letters with him. When Heidi gave Elliot a small plush lion named Ziggiโ€”Teddy’s zero-gravity indicator that he took on every missionโ€”Elliot pulled up Teddy’s social media posts to prove it was real.

Morgan noticed something in those photos. In picture after picture, across many months, Teddy held the same pen.

That small detail broke the case wide open.

Morgan realized Teddy had brain cancer from space radiation exposure. His keynote speech was not going to endorse space explorationโ€”he planned to reveal his diagnosis and urge people to stop space exploration so others would not suffer the same fate.

Heidi could not let that happen. She worked at NASA and had access to the VX nerve agent from a testing facility. She poisoned the pie, used Arden as an unwitting delivery system, and planned to deliver a modified speech that protected Teddy’s legacy while hiding the truth.

The motive was not money or corporate rivalry. It was love twisted into something dark. Heidi wanted the world to remember Teddy as a hero, not a victim of the very program he dedicated his life to.

Soto vs. Willa Quinn: A Dangerous Game

While Morgan solved the astronaut murder, Soto (Judy Reyes) was in New York facing a different kind of threat. She tracked down Willa Quinn (Jennifer Jason Leigh), the high-profile political fixer connected to Roman’s disappearance.

Willa played mind games from the start. She knew Soto was coming before she arrived. She correctly guessed Soto’s layover city and even left a black dress in Soto’s hotel closet with a note inviting her to a charity ball.

At the ball, Willa tried to intimidate Soto. She offered her a job with triple the pay, but Soto refused. When Soto mentioned Roman and produced evidenceโ€”the phone found in Roman’s backpackโ€”Willa remained cool and composed.

The most chilling moment came when Soto returned to Los Angeles. She found Willa Quinn waiting for her, proving that this woman plays on a whole different level. The game between them is far from over.

Captain Wagner’s Mysterious Behavior

Captain Nick Wagner (Steve Howey) made his return in this episode, and his behavior raised eyebrows. He showed unusual interest in Roman’s case, asking Morgan for updates and offering help.

Morgan confronted him about his sudden helpfulness. Wagner opened up about his difficult family background, explaining that he grew up in a home where truth was always negotiated. He tested people to see what would break them.

He told Morgan he realized the team were “good people” and “honest cops.” But is he telling the truth, or playing a longer game? With only three episodes left this season, viewers are watching Wagner very closely.

Stray Thoughts From Episode 15

Fans noticed several small moments worth remembering. Daphne would have laughed at Oz’s puns in this episode, and Elliot’s heartbreak over Teddy’s death reminded everyone how these cases affect real people. Heidi mentioning she and Teddy worked together for 12 years before things turned romanticโ€””until one day they could no longer keep it professional”โ€”had fans thinking about Morgan and Karadec’s future.
