The ABC crime comedy drama High Potential finished its second season with a big finale on April 7, 2026. The episode, titled “Family Tree,” brought intense moments, personal betrayals, and a shocking cliffhanger that left fans waiting for Season 3.

This episode put Morgan Gillory and Detective Adam Karadec in a tough spot. They had to solve a murder at a luxury hotel where Karadec’s girlfriend, Lucia, works. The case got very personal very fast.

Main Cast Who Shined in the Season 2 Finale

Kaitlin Olson leads the show as Morgan Gillory. She plays a single mom with a very high IQ who helps the LAPD solve crimes. Olson is also an executive producer on the show. In the finale, Morgan figures out that something is wrong with Lucia. She has to tell Karadec the hard truth, which puts their friendship to the test.

Olson shared her thoughts on the finale with TheWrap. She talked about how Morgan feels after discovering the truth about Lucia.

“She certainly doesn’t want to see him hurt and the fact that she’s the one that figured it out, it just doesn’t feel good. I don’t want to know all of this, I don’t want to remember it. I don’t want to be able to notice things that give me answers that I don’t want to have to tell people.”

Daniel Sunjata plays Detective Adam Karadec. He is the by-the-book detective who first did not trust Morgan’s unusual methods. Over time, they have built a strong working relationship. In “Family Tree,” Karadec faces a painful situation. He learns that his girlfriend Lucia helped a criminal. Sunjata’s performance in the finale got a lot of praise from critics.

Javicia Leslie returns as Daphne Forrester. She is a sharp officer who often helps balance the tension between Morgan and Karadec. In episode 18, Daphne helps confirm key evidence that moves the case forward.

Judy Reyes plays Lieutenant Selena Soto. She is the head of the Major Crimes Division. Soto hired Morgan and often has to manage the team’s different working styles. In the finale, she helps Karadec handle the questioning of Lucia.

Deniz Akdeniz plays Lev “Oz” Osman. He is the tech-savvy member of the team. Oz finds digital evidence and helps track down leads. He also brings some lighter moments to the serious cases.

Amirah J plays Ava Gillory, Morgan’s daughter. In this episode, Ava gets ready for an art show. She struggles to find the right idea for her project. Her storyline adds a personal touch to the episode.

Matthew Lamb plays Elliot Radovic, Morgan’s son. He appears in the family scenes and adds to Morgan’s motivation for keeping her work and home life balanced.

Steve Howey plays Captain Nick Wagner. He joined the show in Season 2 as the new precinct captain. In the finale, Wagner helps Morgan dig into the mystery of her missing ex-partner, Roman. The episode ends with Wagner getting shot, leaving his future uncertain.

Kaitlin Olson talked about Wagner’s fate and how Morgan feels responsible.

“It’s all because she opened up this Pandora’s box of trying to figure out where Roman went … I think that she’s probably thinking, ‘If I had just kept my mouth shut and just gone on about my life and been selfless and taking care of the kids … then none of this would happen.’”

Guest Stars and Recurring Characters in Episode 18

The season finale brought in several guest actors who played important roles in the case.

Susan Kelechi Watson played Lucia, Karadec’s girlfriend. Lucia works as a manager at the Blackwell Hotel. The murder happens at her workplace. As the investigation goes on, Morgan discovers that Lucia moved the victim’s body and lied to cover for a criminal. This betrayal breaks Karadec’s heart.

Jennifer Jason Leigh appeared as Willa Quinn. She is a mysterious figure connected to the disappearance of Morgan’s ex-partner, Roman. Willa calls Morgan with a warning. She tells Morgan to back off from her search.

Billy Brown played Charles Hale. He is a hotel guest who argues with Lucia. Morgan sees them fighting outside the hotel. Charles later gives the police a fake description of a suspect.

Christopher Gartin played Frank Hensley. He is a TV home renovation star whose wife, Vera, is found dead at the hotel. Frank becomes the main suspect in the case.

Colleen Donovan played Vera Hensley, the murder victim. She is Frank’s wife and the other half of the home renovation show.

Clancy Brown played Nick Wagner Sr., the captain’s father. He is connected to Willa Quinn and the Roman mystery.

Steve Howey told Red94 that his character brings new energy to the show.

“The extra episodes allow the luxury of more real estate to lean into some of the other great cast members we have.”
