What to Expect in the New Season
For the new season, the action relocates from a hijacked airplane to a Berlin underground train. The official description states that commuters are taken hostage while authorities on the ground work to save hundreds of lives. Sam Nelson once again finds himself at the center of the unfolding disaster.
A key twist suggested by the promotional material is that Sam may be under suspicion. Investigators are questioning whether he is involved in the new hijacking, with the motive being “justice or revenge”. This adds a complex layer to his character as he navigates the crisis.
The show’s creators have hinted at exploring Sam Nelson in new situations. Executive producer Jim Field Smith noted, “I think Sam as a character is really compellingโฆ and I think it would always be interesting to see how he would react in other situations”.
The season picks up two years after the events of the first hijacking on Flight KA29. The plot for the premiere episode, titled “Signal,” indicates that Sam is thrust into another life-threatening ordeal, but this time, the stakes are more personal.
Returning Cast and New Faces
Idris Elba leads the returning cast as Sam Nelson, reprising his Emmy-nominated role. He is joined by several familiar faces from season one, including Christine Adams as Marsha, Max Beesley as Daniel O’Farrell, and Archie Panjabi as DCI Zahra Gahfoor.
The new Berlin-set story introduces a host of talented actors to the series. New cast members for season two include Christian Nรคthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, and Lisa Vicari. They are joined by acclaimed actors Toby Jones, Karima McAdams, and Christiane Paul.
