Voice Actors Share Their Joy About The Return
The main cast members expressed their happiness about the season 3 announcement. Each actor shared personal thoughts about what the show means to them.
Masaaki Mizunaka (Diablo): “How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord is a very special and meaningful work for me, as it was the first time I had the opportunity to play a leading role in an anime. I couldn’t be happier to hear that a third season has been decided. I will do my best to make sure everyone enjoys it, just as I did with the first season!”
Yu Serizawa (Shera): “W-What?! I’m so glad I didn’t give up!!! I’m truly grateful for all the support and love!!! How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord is a work that has given me so many firsts. There were scenes I couldn’t show my dad, I met and fell in love with Azumi Waki, who plays Rem, I got to sing the ending theme as my first single. I wonder what will happen in season 3… I can’t wait!!!”
Azumi Waki (Rem): “Season 3!?!? Thank you, thank you so much!! I’m so happy to be able to work on this beloved series again with my beloved characters and everyone I love. I’m looking forward to having lots of small, cute squabbles with Shera again after so long.”
What Is How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord About?
The story follows Takuma Sakamoto, a socially awkward gamer who dominates the MMORPG Cross Reverie. Other players call him the “Demon Lord” because of his incredible power. One day, he gets summoned to a fantasy world. He arrives looking exactly like his game character.
Two girls, Shera and Rem, try to use an enslavement spell on him. But Takuma’s magic reflection ability reverses the spell. The girls become his slaves instead. Takuma decides to act like his in-game persona Diablo to hide his poor social skills. He speaks with confidence and power, even though he feels nervous inside. The show mixes comedy, action, and fantasy elements as Diablo navigates this new world while protecting the two girls who now serve him.
Light Novel and Manga Success
The original light novel series, written by Yukiya Murasaki with illustrations by Takahiro Tsurusaki, began in December 2014 under Kodansha’s Ranobe Bunko imprint. The series has 14 volumes released so far. Total copies in circulation have crossed 4.2 million.
The manga adaptation, drawn by Naoto Fukuda, started in June 2015. The 28th volume came out in December 2025, with the 29th volume scheduled for an April 9, 2026 release. English versions of both the light novels and manga are available through J-Novel Club and Seven Seas Entertainment.
Season 2 Challenges and Censorship Issues
The second season faced criticism when it first aired in 2021. Many viewers pointed out heavy censorship in the broadcast version. The studio later released a less censored version on streaming platforms. This gave fans a chance to see the content as originally intended.
The series also faced classification issues in some regions. In 2023, the Australian Classification Board refused to classify the anime. This effectively banned its sale and legal import in Australia.
