Fox has officially ordered a second season of Memory of a Killer, the crime thriller starring Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli. The renewal arrives as the show’s 10-episode first season wrapped up on April 6, 2026. The series will continue through the 2026-2027 TV season.
The show has become one of Fox’s strongest new dramas. The premiere episode aired after the NFC Championship Game in January and brought in 16.2 million viewers across all platforms. It also became Fox’s most-streamed drama debut in six years, since 9-1-1: Lone Star started in 2020. The series continues to perform well on Hulu, often ranking in the platform’s daily top 10.
Why Fox Renewed the Show So Quickly
Fox executives pointed to the show’s strong numbers and viewer response. Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network, explained why the network decided to bring the show back.
“Memory of a Killer has become a true standout with visceral performances from Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli,” said Thorn. “Aaron Zelman, Glenn Kessler, and our partners at Warner Bros. Television have delivered a sharp, emotional character-driven thriller that’s clearly landed with viewers, and we’re excited to continue that success together in Season Two.”
Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, also shared her excitement about the renewal.
“We’re thrilled Fox has renewed Memory of a Killer for a second season, a richly deserved renewal given the show’s great critical, creative, and commercial success,” Dungey said. “The performances of Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli have been powerful and compelling, and we can’t wait to see what the show’s brilliant creative team has in store for Angelo’s next chapter.”
Michael Imperioli confirmed the news on his Instagram account, writing to fans, “Angelo and Dutch will ride again. Season one finale tonite. Then on to Season Two. See you there.”
What ‘Memory of a Killer’ Season 1 Left Unfinished
The first season ended with a major cliffhanger. Angelo Doyle (Dempsey), a hitman hiding his double life from his family, finally faces exposure. His daughter Maria (Odeya Rush) receives a file containing details of all his recent hits. She shows up at his secret New York City apartment and demands the truth.
The finale also saw the death of Grant (Gina Torres), the FBI agent revealed as the main villain known as the Ferryman. Before Angelo kills her, she warns him that his “nightmare is just beginning.” Nicky (Michaela McManus), Angelo’s love interest, dies after being stabbed at Grant’s command.
Joe (Richard Harmon), Angelo’s ally, ends up in the hospital. While not fully conscious, he mentions Angelo’s daughter to Dutch (Imperioli), who had no idea about this part of Angelo’s life.
What to Expect From Season 2
Aaron Zelman, who runs the show alongside Glenn Kessler, talked about what comes next. Zelman and Kessler took over as showrunners starting with Episode 4 and will continue leading Season 2.
The biggest question heading into the new season is how Maria will react to learning her father is a hitman. Zelman made it clear this will not be an easy fix.
“It’s a real reckoning. It’s not going to be so easy to wiggle out of this one,” Zelman said about Maria finding out the truth.
Dutch now has strong reasons to suspect Angelo has been hiding something important. The show will dig deeper into their past. Zelman shared that Season 2 will explore their backstory more and reveal why Angelo feared Dutch finding out about Maria.
Angelo also insisted on a new arrangement with Dutch at the end of Season 1. He now wants to vet every hit before taking it. After learning he killed a good man who was set up, Angelo decided he cannot just follow orders anymore.
