Episode 2, which runs for about 1 hour and 2 minutes, deals directly with the aftermath of the shocking murder.

After finding his bandmate and group leader, Kang Woo-sung, dead in his apartment, Do Ra-ik is arrested. He is emotionally devastated and cannot remember the full details of the night because he was drunk. At the police station, a furious Ra-ik lashes out, blaming obsessive “sasaeng” fans for the tragedy and for ruining his life. This angry outburst is witnessed by Maeng Se-na, who is shaken to see the harsh contrast between her idol’s gentle public image and his raw, private anger.

Despite her shock, Se-na is determined to help. She is moved by a deep personal history with Ra-ik. The drama reveals through a flashback that a young Se-na, severely bullied in school, was once saved from despair by a teenage Ra-ik. He shared his music with her, giving her the strength to keep living and eventually become a lawyer. This past connection fuels her belief in his innocence.

Her commitment is tested when Ra-ik’s own management agency abandons him, even terminating his contract, and no other lawyer will take the case due to the powerful prosecutor involved. Defying advice from her firm, Se-na steps in as his official defense attorney.

She begins her investigation with help from a private investigator, Park Chung-jae (Kim Hyun-jin). They track down the obsessive fans who had previously broken into Ra-ik’s home, proving that his apartment was not secure. In the first courtroom hearing, Se-na successfully argues that the police investigation was flawed and that there is no direct evidence against Ra-ik. The judge releases Ra-ik from custody, though the investigation continues.

The episode ends with Ra-ik, now a public pariah with his posters vandalized, being cared for by Se-na. He wakes up the next morning, confused, to find himself in her home.

Idol I is a romantic comedy and legal mystery that blends the high-stakes world of criminal law with the intense, glamorous life of K-pop. The series asks how well fans really know the idols they admire.

The drama is written by Kim Da-rin and directed by Lee Kwang-young, who previously worked on series like Call It Love and The Secret Life of My Secretary. The main cast features Choi Soo-young of Girls’ Generation as the lawyer Maeng Se-na and Kim Jae-young as the idol Do Ra-ik.

The show is planned for a total of 12 episodes, releasing two per week. Following Episode 2, the story continues with Episodes 3 and 4, scheduled for release on Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
