Recap of Industry Season 4, Episode 5: โ€˜Eyes Without a Faceโ€™

The fifth episode, which premiered on February 8 in the US and February 9 in the UK, was a major turning point. The story followed two parallel crises.

Stern Tao, the investment fund run by Harper and Eric, is on the brink of collapse. A margin call from their bank demands more cash to cover their massive bet against Tender, whose stock price keeps rising. With no way to meet the demand, Harper and Eric are trapped in their hotel suite, confronting their professional failure and broken personal lives.

Harper gets a phone call that leaves her shaken up enoughโ€”we donโ€™t yet know whyโ€”to decide that Kwabena should accompany Sweetpea to Ghana instead.

The call informs Harper that her estranged mother has died in a sudden accident. This news forces a rare moment of vulnerability between Harper and Eric, where they confess their emotional failings. Eric reveals his teenage daughter was expelled from school for a cruel prank, and he struggles to feel any connection to his children.

Meanwhile, Sweetpea and Kwabena travel to Accra, Ghana, to investigate Tenderโ€™s local operations. They are trying to find proof that the company is a fraud. After meetings with evasive Tender employees and lawyers, they discover that a local payment processor Tender claimed to buy for $50 million is virtually non-existent.

โ€œThe thing is nothing!โ€ Sweetpea squeals when she reaches Harper on the phone with her findings. โ€œThe thing is nothing!โ€

Their discovery suggests Tender is using fake, inflated acquisitions to create an illusion of growth and hide its lack of real profits. However, their investigation turns dangerous. Sweetpea is attacked at a beach bar by an unknown assailant, who punches her in the face. Despite the trauma, she and Kwabena eventually share an intimate moment, bonding over the intensity of their trip.

The episode ended with Sweetpea and Kwabenaโ€™s breakthrough, giving Harper a potential weapon to use against Tender as Stern Tao fights for survival.

New Faces and Storylines in Season 4

This season introduces several new characters connected to the fintech company Tender and the political drama surrounding it. Max Minghella plays Whitney Halberstram, the ambitious CFO of Tender. Kiernan Shipka plays Hayley Clay, a sharp political aide. Kit Harington returns as Sir Henry Muck, who becomes the CEO of Tender, putting him and his wife Yasmin directly at odds with Harper.

The seasonโ€™s main story involves Tender, a payment app whose main business comes from an adult content platform similar to OnlyFans. As new laws and political pressure threaten this revenue, Tender tries to reinvent itself as a legitimate bank, sparking a complex story about money, power, and fraud.
