What Happens in Season 4
The new season picks up after the devastating events of Season 3. Mark Grayson, also known as Invincible, is left dealing with the aftermath of his brutal battle with Conquest from the Viltrum Empire. A guilt-ridden Mark struggles to protect Earth from new and emerging threats while trying to hold his personal life together.
This season adapts the fan-favorite Viltrumite War storyline from the comics. Mark teams up with unexpected allies, including his father Omni-Man, Allen the Alien, and Battle Beast, to face an invasion by the Viltrumite Empire. For the first time, the series pulls back the curtain on Viltrumite society, explaining why they are the way they are and giving more depth to characters like Nolan.
Co-showrunner Simon Racioppa explained the emotional stakes. “War has casualties, and maybe you make it back alive, but maybe not all of you comes back. There are consequences to actions that are invisible to the eye, but are there mentally and will continue to have effects on our characters for seasons to come.”
Series creator Robert Kirkman added that Season 4 pays off storylines built over multiple seasons. “Our first episode pays off a long-running Sequids storyline. The Viltrumites War itself pays off a lot of the long-running Viltrumite storylines that have been going on behind the scenes.”
New and Returning Cast Members
The main voice cast returns for Season 4. Steven Yeun voices Mark Grayson, Sandra Oh plays his mother Debbie Grayson, and J.K. Simmons returns as Nolan Grayson. Gillian Jacobs is back as Atom Eve, while Christian Convery voices Oliver Grayson.
Season 4 introduces several major comic book characters to the animated series:
- Lee Pace joins the cast as Thragg, the powerful leader of the Viltrumite Empire and one of the most dangerous villains Invincible will ever face.
- Matthew Rhys voices Dinosaurus, a complex antagonist with his own twisted moral code.
- Danai Gurira lends her voice to Universa, another formidable new threat.
The expanded cast also includes Seth Rogen, Walton Goggins, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jason Mantzoukas, Zazie Beetz, Zachary Quinto, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Mark Hamill, and many others.
Is There a Trailer
Yes. Prime Video released the official Invincible Season 4 trailer on January 22, 2026. The trailer showcases the scope of the intergalactic Viltrumite War storyline and teases a new role for Omni-Man. A Burger Mart-inspired teaser was also revealed at New York Comic Con in October 2025 in front of 4,500 fans.

Will There Be More Seasons
Yes. Season 5 has already been confirmed and is currently in production. Amazon officially renewed the series back in July 2025.
As for how long the show will run, Kirkman previously mentioned in a 2024 interview that he and co-showrunner Simon Racioppa have mapped out roughly eight seasons. “Could be seven, could be ten,” he said. The series continues to follow the comic books closely, though Kirkman has revealed plans to include storylines he never got to in the original comic run.
Why Fans Keep Coming Back
Invincible has built a loyal following by refusing to hit the reset button. Characters carry their trauma from season to season. The events of the Season 1 finale still affect Mark’s decisions in Season 4.
Racioppa put it simply. “If these things don’t matter to Mark, they’re not going to matter to the audience. If Mark isn’t scared about what he has to do, then the audience won’t be scared for him.”
Kirkman emphasized the importance of paying off long-running storylines. “Too often shows hold things in reserve too much. I think that you’re going to lose the audience if you do that too frequently.”
With its mix of brutal action, emotional weight, and comic-accurate storytelling, Invincible Season 4 gives viewers exactly what they have been waiting for: the war with the Viltrumites, the debut of Thragg, and more proof that no one gets out clean.
