Jamie Foxx Shares Gratitude for Fans After Comedy Special Release

Jamie Foxx expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters on December 9, 2024, just ahead of the release of his comedy special Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… The 56-year-old actor-musician took to Instagram to thank those who had been part of his journey, sharing a “personal thank you” for the prayers and support he’s received, particularly after facing a life-threatening medical emergency earlier in 2023.

Foxx captioned the post: “Just want to jump on and say thank you to everybody that prayed. It’s a blessing to be in the position that I’m in to be able to tell you my story in my way… I hope the jokes make you laugh and I hope the story inspires you.” He concluded, “It’s been a hell of a journey.”

A Personal Story of Struggle and Recovery

What Had Happened Was… chronicles the difficult period in Foxx’s life following a serious stroke he suffered on April 11, 2023. The stroke occurred while he was working on the Netflix movie Back in Action in Atlanta. Foxx revealed that he does not remember the 20 days of recovery following the incident, which he described as a “brain bleed that led to a stroke.”

The special offers a deeply personal account of his recovery, with Foxx sharing the emotional moment when his daughter, Anelise, played guitar at his hospital bedside, helping to stabilize his vital signs. “I went out. I don’t remember 20 days,” Foxx said during the special. “But that music, that healing, it saved me.”

Atlanta’s Warm Reception and Gratitude for the Opportunity

Filmed in Atlanta, the special was an emotional return to the stage for Foxx, who had not performed live in nearly two decades. He expressed his gratitude to the audience, saying, “I hadn’t been on the stage officially in 18 years, Atlanta made it feel like I ain’t lost a step.” He also acknowledged the power of faith, stating, “We’ve been saying this: God is good all the time and all the time God is good.”

As the special premiered on Netflix on December 10, Foxx encouraged viewers to enjoy the show, saying, “Get your popcorn! Let’s go on this ride, let’s listen to this story, let’s laugh, cry if you need to, cuz I know I have. But my tears now are tears of joy cuz I ain’t think I was gonna be able to do this.”

Golden Globe Nomination and Upcoming Projects

In addition to the release of his comedy special, Foxx also reacted to his Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance in a Stand-Up Comedy Show, announced on December 9, 2024, by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. “And the Golden Globes, thank you for that!” Foxx expressed, celebrating the recognition.

Looking ahead, Foxx is set to star alongside Cameron Diaz in the Netflix action film Back in Action, which will be released on January 17, 2025. He is also gearing up for his directorial debut with the comedy All-Star Weekend, which will feature a star-studded cast including Jeremy Piven, Robert Downey Jr., and Eva Longoria.
