Actors Kim Soo Hyun and Jo Bo Ah have officially been confirmed as the leads in the upcoming black comedy K-drama Knock Off, as announced by Disney+ on August 26, 2024. The series, which promises to deliver a gripping narrative, revolves around a man whose life takes a dramatic turn due to the 1997 Asian financial crisis, also known in Korea as the IMF crisis. He eventually rises to become a major player in the global counterfeit market.

A Transformation Story in the Midst of Crisis

Knock Off will follow the journey of Kim Sung Joon, portrayed by Kim Soo Hyun. Sung Joon is an ordinary office worker whose life is thrown into turmoil when he loses his job during the IMF crisis. This pivotal event pushes him into the world of counterfeit goods, where he quickly climbs the ranks to become the vice president of Saemmool Market, a significant hub for counterfeit products in Korea. Using his sharp intellect, quick decision-making skills, and relentless ambition, Sung Joon eventually establishes himself as the kingpin of the global counterfeit industry.

Tense Dynamics and High Stakes

Jo Bo Ah will take on the role of Song Hye Jung, Kim Sung Joon’s ex-girlfriend and a special judicial police officer tasked with cracking down on counterfeit goods. The drama is set to explore the intense cat-and-mouse dynamic between Kim Sung Joon and Song Hye Jung as they find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Their complex relationship adds an intriguing layer of tension to the storyline, making Knock Off a must-watch for fans of the genre.

Star-Studded Cast and Production Details

The drama will be directed by Park Hyun Suk, a renowned director known for his work on popular series such as Forest of Secrets 2 (Stranger 2), Uncontrollably Fond, and Song of the Bandits. The ensemble cast also includes several prominent actors:

– Kim Si Eun: Known for her role in the 2020 drama Run On, she will play a key character entangled in Kim Sung Joon’s counterfeit empire.

– Lee Jung Eun: Famous for her role in Parasite.

– Jo Woo Jin: Known for his appearance in Goblin.

– Kim Hye Eun: From the series Not Others.

– Kang Mal Geum: Featured in Gyeongseong Creature.

– Choi Gyu Ri: A rookie actress who portrayed Na In Woo’s sister in the hit drama Marry My Husband will play Kim Soo Hyun’s sister.

Release and Format Details

On May 29, a Korean media outlet reported that Knock Off will be released in a seasonal format. The drama is confirmed to consist of two seasons, with each season comprising nine episodes, totaling 18 episodes. While the series is scheduled to premiere in 2025, the exact programming and release dates are yet to be announced.
