The soundtrack to the Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters has achieved a historic milestone no movie music has reached in a decade. The smash hit song “Golden” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a sixth week, making it the longest-running No. 1 single from a soundtrack in over ten years.

This achievement breaks the record previously held by “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Encanto, which ruled for five weeks in 2022. The last soundtrack single to lead longer was “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth from Fast & Furious 7, which had a 12-week reign in 2015.

How “Golden” Made Chart History

Billboard confirmed the record on Monday, September 23, 2025, for the chart dated September 27. “Golden” has now spent 13 consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 after debuting at No. 81 in July. Its six-week run at the top also makes it the longest-leading No. 1 hit by an animated group in the Hot 100’s 67-year history.

The Billboard Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs in the United States by combining streaming data, radio airplay, and sales. In the tracking week ending September 18, “Golden” earned 32.1 million streams, 30.6 million radio airplay audience impressions, and sold 7,000 copies.

The Soundtrack’s Dominance

The success of “KPop Demon Hunters” extends far beyond one song. The soundtrack recently claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart and made history as the first soundtrack ever to have four songs in the Hot 100’s top 10 simultaneously.

This week, three other tracks from the film join “Golden” in the top tier: “Soda Pop” holds at No. 5, “Your Idol” follows at No. 6, and “How It’s Done” ranks at No. 10. This level of chart dominance is exceptionally rare for a movie soundtrack.

The Voices Behind the Music

The fictional girl group HUNTR/X, featured in the film, is brought to life by the singing talents of three artists. EJAE provides the singing voice for character Rumi, Audrey Nuna for Mira, and REI AMI for Zoey. Their collaboration on “Golden” has made them the first female group associated with Korean pop to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100.

The trio’s success also places them among the top-performing all-female groups in chart history. With six weeks at No. 1, “Golden” is now the third-longest-leading Hot 100 hit by an all-female group of three or more members, behind only Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women Part I” (11 weeks) and TLC’s “Waterfalls” (7 weeks).

The Unlikely Success of an Animated Film

Released on June 20, 2025, on Netflix, “KPop Demon Hunters” is an animated feature that follows the secret double life of a K-pop girl group who are also demon hunters. The film itself has broken records, becoming the most-watched original film in Netflix history with over 300 million views.

The movie’s success expanded from streaming to a surprise hit theatrical run. A sing-along version of the film was released in theaters across the U.S. and Canada in late August, grossing an estimated $18 million in its opening weekend and becoming the first Netflix film to later reach No. 1 at the box office.

The soundtrack’s popularity was boosted by a deluxe reissue on September 5, 2025, which added 23 new tracks, including instrumental and a cappella versions. The album is also available in multiple CD variants, with a vinyl release expected in October.
