Netflix will begin 2026 with a tense new Swedish crime drama. Land of Sin, a five-part limited series, will be available to stream starting Friday, January 2, 2026. All episodes will be released at once, giving viewers an immediate binge-worthy mystery set in the rural landscapes of southern Sweden.
The series follows two detectives investigating a teenager’s death, which uncovers a violent family feud. Creator Peter Grรถnlund describes the show as a character-driven story that explores dark themes of shame, loyalty, and survival. The series was originally created under the Swedish title Synden.
Land of Sin is scheduled for a global premiere on January 2, 2026. It will be available exclusively on Netflix in all territories where the service operates.
The release is part of Netflix’s early 2026 schedule, which includes other major titles like new seasons of Bridgerton and The Night Agent. Unlike weekly releases, all five episodes of this limited series will be available immediately for streaming.
The story begins when a teenager named Silas is found dead at a farmhouse on the Bjรคre peninsula in southern Sweden. An experienced but unconventional investigator, Dani, is assigned to the case. She is partnered with Malik, a recent police academy graduate.
Dani has a personal connection to the victim, which pulls her deeper into the investigation. Their inquiry leads them into the heart of the Scanian countryside, where they discover a generations-old family feud filled with violence and secrets.
Adding pressure to the investigation is the family’s patriarch, Elias. He gives Dani a strict deadline to solve the case before he takes justice into his own hands. This creates a race against time for the detectives.
Creator Peter Grรถnlund shared his vision for the series, stating:
โThe world we enter here is darker, more fragile – a place where shame, love and violence share the same pulse. We pushed beyond formula and style to portray the people at the edge, their fears, loyalties and survival instincts – a raw, cinematic journey into the psychology that drives them, and the secrets they carry like a second skin.โ
The series features a Scandinavian cast led by Finnish actress Krista Kosonen as Detective Dani. Kosonen is known for her roles in Nordic films and series.
She is joined by Mohammed Nour Oklah, who plays her partner, Malik. Peter Gantman portrays Elias, the threatening family patriarch. The cast also includes actress Lisa Lindgren in a supporting role.
The series is the creation of Peter Grรถnlund, who serves as the director, writer, and executive producer. Grรถnlund is recognized for his previous work on the acclaimed HBO series Beartown. His involvement has generated interest in the project.
The production also features cinematography by Mattias Rudh and editing by Dino Jonsรคter and Vickis Munck.
Land of Sin is described as a thriller that blends a detective investigation with deep family drama. The setting in rural southern Sweden provides an atmospheric backdrop, a common trait of popular Scandinavian noir.
The series promises to focus on character psychology and moral conflicts rather than just a procedural mystery. With only five episodes, the story is expected to be tightly paced.
Early descriptions from Netflix summarize the show: โWhen a teenager goes missing, a detective with personal ties to the case joins a tense investigation that reveals fierce loyalties and old family feuds.โ
