A Look Back at the Season 2 Premiere
The Season 2 premiere, “Death and a Sunset,” picked up with Billy Bob Thornton‘s character, Tommy Norris, stepping into his new position as head of M-Tex Oil following the death of Monty Miller. Tommy immediately faced pressure from the cartel, which is trying to expand its influence in the oil industry.
Meanwhile, Monty’s widow, Cami Miller, played by Demi Moore, worked to establish her own authority as the official owner of the company. In a pivotal scene, she hosted a luncheon and, after initial anxiety, delivered a powerful speech declaring herself ready to be a predator in the cutthroat oil business.
The episode also followed Tommy’s son, Cooper, who had a major professional win when an oil well he discovered proved to be extremely successful. The premiere ended on a dramatic and emotional note, with Tommy receiving the news that his mother had died. The episode also introduced an emotional elderly man named T.L., leaving viewers to question his connection to Tommy.
What to Expect in Episode 2: “Sins of the Father”
The title of the next episode, “Sins of the Father,” strongly suggests that family secrets and inherited troubles will be a central theme. Tommy will be seen warning his son, Cooper, about the dangers of the oil business world he is entering.
With the mysterious T.L. now introduced, fans can expect to learn more about his identity and his potential connection to Tommy’s past. If T.L. is revealed to be Tommy’s father, it could create new tensions for the Norris family.
Cami Miller will also continue to face challenges as she navigates a business where she has limited experience but must project confidence and strength to survive.
The series is co-created by Taylor Sheridan and is based on the Texas Monthly podcast “Boomtown.” It explores the high-risk world of oil rigs and the people who profit from them.
Billy Bob Thornton previously teased the season’s tensions, stating, โTommyโs dealing with someone now who is really smart. Since he is so smart, who knows what Tommy is going to get tricked into?โ
The official season synopsis states that as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets, and Tommy Norris’s breaking point may be closer than he realizes.
