The upcoming second season of Taylor Sheridan‘s hit Paramount+ series Landman appears to have solved a key issue that bothered many fans during its acclaimed first run. After the dramatic events of the Season 1 finale, the show is shifting its focus, giving a previously underused character a much larger role in the story.
The Original Problem: Underused Star Power
In Landman Season 1, Jon Hamm played Monty Miller, the head of M-Tex Oil Corporation. Despite his star power, Hamm’s character had surprisingly little screen time. His sudden death in the Season 1 finale, while a major plot point, did not have the emotional impact the creators may have intended. Many fans felt that because Monty Miller was not on screen enough, his death did not resonate as strongly as it could have.
This was also true for Demi Moore, who played Monty’s wife, Cami Miller. She appeared even more rarely than Hamm in the first season. The limited presence of these two major actors was a source of contention for viewers.
The Season 2 Solution: A Powerful New Role for Demi Moore
With Monty Miller’s story concluded, the show is moving forward by bringing Cami Miller to the forefront. The official trailer for Season 2, released in early October 2025, shows that Demi Moore will have a significantly expanded role.
This change makes perfect sense for the story. As the widow of Monty Miller, Cami now owns M-Tex Oil. The official season logline states that Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton, is “facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller, and the shadow of his kin.” This setup puts Cami in a powerful new position.
Co-creator Christian Wallace had previously hinted that this was always the plan, noting that Cami is “a force to be reckoned with” and that it would be “very interesting to see what Camiโs role would be in this world when sheโs the person closer to the top.” Reports indicate that giving Moore a larger role in the second season was always part of Taylor Sheridan‘s plan for the series.
The trailer for the new season highlights this new dynamic. In one scene, Cami tells a room of executives, “The only difference between me and my husband, is Iโm meaner.” This signals a more assertive and central role for her character.
Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, was named the new president of M-Tex after Monty’s death. He will now have to work closely with Cami, who holds the ownership of the company. Thornton teased this new partnership, saying, โSince [Cami] doesnโt really know the oil business that well, [Tommyโs] there with her to show her how these people operate. I know how to deal with these people sheโs going to have to deal with.”
Other Major Changes Coming in Season 2
The character shift is not the only new development for the show’s return. The cast is growing with the addition of Sam Elliott as Tommy Norris’s father. His character is shown in the trailer having a tense conversation with Tommy.
Furthermore, Andy Garcia, who made a surprise appearance as the cartel boss Gallino in the Season 1 finale, will be a series regular in Season 2. His character saved Tommy from being killed and entered into a business deal with him, setting up a dangerous new alliance.
Landman Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, November 16, 2025, on Paramount+.
