Actress Lara Dutta is in advanced talks to play the role of Princess Kaikeyi in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming trilogy, “Ramayana.” Sources close to the development indicate that Tiwari is keen on casting actors who can aptly portray the timeless characters from Indian history. Dutta, deemed perfect for the pivotal character of Kaikeyi, is said to be enthusiastic about entering the fantastical world crafted by Tiwari.
While the film is designed as a trilogy, Lara Dutta is expected to feature prominently in “Ramayana: Part One.” Joining Ranbir Kapoor in the film’s first schedule set for March 2024, Dutta’s portrayal of Kaikeyi will contribute significantly to the storyline, adding depth to the conflict within the epic.
As the casting process unfolds, Nitesh Tiwari and his team are reportedly pursuing Bobby Deol for the role of Kumbhkaran. However, the actor is yet to confirm his participation, considering the multitude of offers flooding his post-“Animal” success. A source close to the development stated that Bobby Deol will decide on his role in the next two months.
Simultaneously, discussions are in advanced stages with Sunny Deol to play the part of Lord Hanuman. Both Tiwari and Ranbir Kapoor are eager to have Sunny Deol on board, envisioning him becoming as iconic and synonymous with Lord Hanuman as Dara Singh was in the past. While the team is in the final stages of negotiation with Sunny Deol, official confirmation is expected within the next 20 days.
In an interesting twist, if all goes according to plan, both Sunny Deol and Yash are set to make cameo appearances in “Ramayana: Part One,” with more prominent roles in the subsequent installments. Their expected joining date is around July 2024. The film’s visual effects are being handled by the Oscar-winning company DNEG, with a scheduled release in the second half of 2025.
