Lee Jong Suk is returning to television with the new drama Law and the City, marking his first K-drama role in three years since Big Mouth in 2022. At a press conference on July 1, 2025, the actor shared why he picked this project, calling it a “comforting” choice after taking on intense roles in the past. The show premieres on July 5, 2025, on tvN and Disney+.

Why Lee Jong Suk Picked Law and the City

Lee Jong Suk plays Ahn Ju Hyeong, a skilled lawyer who has worked at the same firm for nine years. Unlike typical legal dramas filled with courtroom battles, Law and the City focuses on everyday life and friendships among young lawyers.

“I think we live in a time where people constantly chase dopamine. I wanted to work on something comforting, and this drama offered that opportunity. I wanted to do something warm and grounded with this amazing cast.”

He explained that most legal dramas deal with defeating evil or fighting for justice, but Law and the City is different. It shows how people live their lives while balancing work and personal struggles. His co-star Moon Ga Young agreed, saying the drama is about human connections and growth.

What to Expect from Law and the City

The drama follows five lawyers who call themselves “The Associate Attorneys Avengers.” They work in Seocho Judicial Town, a busy legal district in Seoul. The group includes:

  • Lee Jong Suk as Ahn Ju Hyeong, a senior lawyer who starts questioning his career.
  • Moon Ga Young as Kang Hee Ji, a passionate junior lawyer who believes in changing lives.
  • Kang You Seok as Jo Chang Won, the social and talkative member of the group.
  • Ryu Hye Young as Bae Moon Jung, a competitive lawyer who leads the group.
  • Im Seong Jae as Kang Sang Ki, a happy-go-lucky lawyer who enjoys food blogging.

Instead of dramatic courtroom scenes, the show highlights their daily strugglesโ€”long work hours, burnout, and personal dilemmas. The cast often shares meals together, which becomes a key part of their friendship.

A Different Kind of Legal Drama

Director Park Seung Woo, who previously worked with Lee Jong Suk on W: Two Worlds Apart, said the drama focuses on real-life experiences. The script was written by Lee Seung Hyun, a real-life lawyer, making the story more authentic.

“Whether you are happy or going through a tough time, you still need to eat. I wanted to express that simple but powerful idea. Even though the characters work on different floors, there is a shared emotional space created during meals.”

Unlike most legal thrillers, Law and the City is a slice-of-life drama. It doesnโ€™t rely on high-stakes cases but instead shows the lawyers as regular people dealing with everyday challenges.

How to Watch Law and the City

The drama premieres on July 5, 2025, at 9:20 PM KST on tvN. International viewers can stream it on Disney+ in select regions. It will air every Saturday and Sunday for 12 episodes, with the final episode scheduled for August 10, 2025.
