Netflix just dropped the trailer for its new British crime drama Legends, and the show already looks like a must-watch for fans of undercover stories. The series comes from Neil Forsyth, the creator of The Gold, and brings together an impressive cast led by Steve Coogan and Tom Burke.

The six-episode show is based on a real undercover operation from the early 1990s. Ordinary customs workers became spies to take down dangerous drug gangs. The trailer shows gunfights, car chases, and high tension as regular people try to survive inside the criminal world.

When Does Legends Release On Netflix

Legends will release on Thursday, May 7, 2026. All six episodes will be available to stream from day one.

Viewers around the world can watch the show on Netflix. This includes audiences in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other countries where Netflix operates. The series drops on the same date globally, so no waiting for different regions.

The release date comes less than a month from the trailer debut, giving fans a short wait for the full series.

Watch The Official Legends Trailer

Netflix released the first official trailer on April 8, 2026. The two-minute video gives a strong look at what the show offers.

The trailer uses The Prodigy’s music to build energy and tension. It opens with Steve Coogan’s character Don, the head of operations for Customs, explaining what a “legend” means. He tells his team that their new identity must become part of them. One wrong word or decision can get them killed.

The footage shows Tom Burke’s character Guy going from a bored suitcase inspector to a man living a dangerous double life. There are shootouts, car chases across different countries, and moments of pure fear as these untrained civilians face real criminals.

What Is The True Story Behind Legends

Legends takes inspiration from a real criminal investigation that few people know about. The show’s creator Neil Forsyth explained why this story caught his attention.

“I’ve written shows in the past that are about well-known events. You then tell the story behind it, that isn’t so well known. This is unique, in that the work of the Legends is barely known at all. There was this core team of people that did all of this, and they did it almost without any public recognition.” – Neil Forsyth, Creator

The real operation happened in the early 1990s. Britain’s Customs and Excise department was losing the fight against drug smuggling. Regular employees, not trained spies, were chosen for a secret mission. These ordinary men and women came from normal lives across the UK. They received basic training and were sent to build fake identities inside criminal drug gangs. Those fake identities were called “legends.”

Who Is In The Cast Of Legends

The show brings together a strong group of British actors. Here is the main cast:

  • Steve Coogan (Philomena, The Reckoning) plays Don, the head of operations
  • Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Strike) plays Guy, a dissatisfied suitcase inspector
  • Hayley Squires (Beau Is Afraid, I, Daniel Blake) plays Kate
  • Aml Ameen (A Man in Full, Rustin) plays Bailey
  • Charlotte Ritchie (You, Ghosts) plays Sophie
  • Jasmine Blackborow (The Gentlemen) appears in a key role
  • Douglas Hodge (Joker, G20) joins the cast
  • Tom Hughes (The English, Victoria) plays Carter
  • Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow) also stars
  • Gerald Kyd (The Assassin) completes the main lineup

This marks the first time Steve Coogan and Tom Burke have worked together on a project.

What Tom Burke Says About His Character Guy

Tom Burke opened up about playing Guy, a man who feels stuck in his ordinary life. His character sees the undercover operation as a chance to become someone more.

“His draw to the recruitment poster asking ‘Could you offer more?’ feels quite universal. There’s a feeling that he’s never quite done what he needed to do; a side of him that he’s pushed down, or which has been pushed down by his environment. There’s an adrenaline junkie in there somewhere. Perhaps somebody else would just go and do a bungee jump, but he needs a bit more than that. It’s like it’s something he’s got to do, to be able to get on with the rest of his life.” – Tom Burke

Who Is Making The Show

Neil Forsyth wrote and created Legends. He previously made The Gold and Guilt, both successful British crime dramas.

The directing team includes Brady Hood (Top Boy, Great Expectations) for episodes 1 through 4, and Julian Holmes (Reacher, The Boys) for episodes 5 and 6.

The show comes from Lion Television, Tannadice Pictures, and All3Media. Ben Farrell and Neil Forsyth serve as executive producers for Tannadice, with Richard Bradley as executive producer for Lion Television. Charlie Leech works as series producer.

How Many Episodes Will Legends Have

Legends consists of six episodes. Netflix will release all of them on May 7, 2026. This allows viewers to watch the complete story over a weekend or at their own pace.

The show is a limited series, meaning it tells one complete story from beginning to end.
