Letitia Wright let a big detail slip during a chat about her latest project. The actor, known for playing Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, talked up her work on the next big team-up film. She mixed up the titles but made it clear her character steps back into action soon. Fans now know Shuri joins the fight in Avengers: Secret Wars, set for theaters in 2027.

Wright shared this while promoting her first time directing, the short film Highway to the Moon. In the interview, she touched on her role as the tech-savvy Wakandan princess who became the new Black Panther. Her words point to more adventures ahead for Shuri amid the MCU’s massive story wrap-up.

The Slip That Started It All

Wright sat down with ScreenRant to discuss her directing gig and future plans. The conversation turned to a possible third Black Panther movie, directed by Ryan Coogler. She kept it short at first.

“I have no clue. All I know is that we just finished Secret Wars, and that was really great.”

She paused, then laughed it off.

“Doomsday, sorry. I confuse the two. I confused the two. That’s what I have to film next, Secret Wars. But Doomsday, we finished that, and that was very great.”

This quick correction came during a relaxed talk on December 5, 2025. Wright wrapped her scenes for Avengers: Doomsday, due out in May 2026. That film brings back old favorites like Doctor Strange and Spider-Man to face a new threat from Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Now, with Secret Wars on deck, Shuri’s story ties into the bigger multiverse clash.

The actor sounded upbeat about the shoot.

“I had a lot of time, a lot of fun on that, so I’m excited for everybody to see that.”

Her excitement shows how deep she feels about the role. Shuri first popped up in Black Panther back in 2018, stealing scenes with her smarts and gadgets. Since then, Wright has carried the character through tough times, including the loss of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa.

Shuri’s Path from Inventor to Protector

Shuri started as the brains behind Wakanda’s tech. In the first Black Panther, she built suits and weapons that saved the day. Audiences loved her quick wit and bond with her brother T’Challa. Wright brought a fresh energy, mixing humor with heart.

The role grew bigger in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, both from 2018. Shuri helped fight Thanos, even as Wakanda faced huge losses. After Boseman passed away in 2020, the MCU shifted gears. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hit screens in November 2022, honoring his legacy while passing the mantle to Shuri.

In that film, Shuri suits up as the Black Panther for the first time. She battles Namor and his underwater army, dealing with grief along the way. The movie earned over $859 million worldwide and picked up an Oscar for costume design. Wright called it a tribute.

“It’s an honor, but it’s also a tribute and a legacy for all that we’ve done in the first films, and I carry my brother every time.”

Now, with Doomsday done, Shuri heads into the final stretch of the Multiverse Saga. Secret Wars pulls from comic books where heroes from different worlds team up on Battleworld. Expect crossovers with variants and big battles. Wright hinted at her character’s changes.

“I’m excited for the growth of Shuri to be seen in these next few films.”

This return marks her biggest team-up yet. Past Avengers films had Shuri in the background, but now she leads Wakanda’s charge.

Wakanda’s Place in the Bigger Fight

Wakanda has always stood out in the MCU. Its vibranium tech and fierce warriors make it a key player. In Doomsday, sources say Shuri links up with the core team early on. Details stay under wraps, but her role likely involves new inventions to counter Doom’s plans.

Secret Wars takes it further. The story draws from 1984 and 2015 comics, where realities smash together. Shuri could protect Wakanda’s pieces or build alliances across timelines. Wright stayed tight-lipped on specifics.

“I cannot say anything.”

Rumors swirled for months about her spot in these films. Insiders like Daniel Richtman reported back in March 2025 that she filmed for both. Now, her own words seal it. She’s the first from the Black Panther crew locked in for Secret Wars. Others, like Angela Bassett as Ramonda, appeared in Doomsday but hold off on the sequel.

This news comes as Marvel plans a soft reset. Kevin Feige, the studio head, said these Avengers movies close Phase Six. Doomsday drops May 1, 2026, in the US, with UK release the same day and India on May 2. Global rollout follows through IMAX and standard screens.

Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027. US and UK theaters open then, India gets it December 18. Expect wide availability on Disney+ months later, around summer 2028, based on past patterns.

Teasing Shuri’s Next Steps

Wright dodged questions on Black Panther 3. Coogler confirmed it’s in the works, but no dates yet. She plans to wait for his call.

“And I’m going to patiently wait for my director to come back to me about anything to do with Black Panther.”

Shuri’s arc feels open-ended. Comics show her as a leader and inventor, often teaming with the Avengers. In the MCU, her return keeps Wakanda central. Recent posts on X show fans buzzing. One user shared, “Shuri leading Wakanda in multiverse chaos? Yes please.” Shares hit thousands since the interview dropped.

Marvel keeps the cast growing. Confirmed for Secret Wars include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, and Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Paul Bettany hinted at Vision’s comeback in a December 13, 2025, chat with The Telegraph.

“I think Iโ€™ve got some Avengers duties next year.”

With Wright in the mix, the film promises Wakandan flair amid the action. Her suit from Wakanda Forever could upgrade, maybe with multiverse tech.

Shuri’s story mirrors real-world themes. Wright, from Guyana and raised in London, brings layers to the role. She spoke on carrying the legacy.

“Always. Always. It’s a big, big, huge honor for me.”

As filming ramps up in 2026, more leaks may surface. For now, her confirmation adds solid ground to the hype. Avengers: Secret Wars rolls out worldwide, with early screenings in major cities like Los Angeles, London, and Mumbai.
