Love Island USA Season 8 has entered its most chaotic phase, and a new bombshell is already making waves in the villa. Carl Lee Schmidt, a 28-year-old fitness instructor from Denver, Colorado, arrived during the Casa Amor twist and formed an immediate connection with original islander Aniya Harvey. The Casa Amor segment kicked off with a brutal twist. The boys were secretly pulled from the villa during what the girls thought was a dance challenge and sent straight to Casa Amor, where six new bombshells were waiting. Later, when host Ariana Madix asked the new men to kiss two islanders, Carl chose Aniya first. Aniya was visibly excited, saying in a confessional, “I was like, who, me? You picked me?”
Their connection deepened during their last conversation of the night. Carl shared that he is half-Chinese and speaks both Chinese and Japanese. When Aniya mentioned her eagerness to visit Japan, where Carl had studied abroad, he taught her a sentence in Japanese. The pair agreed to sleep in the same bed, solidifying one of the strongest early connections in Casa Amor.
Who Is Carl Lee Schmidt?
Schmidt is a 28-year-old fitness instructor who runs the fitness-focused Instagram account “Witness Lee.” According to his LinkedIn profile, he has also worked as a personal therapy aide for over three years. Originally from Denver, Colorado, his personal Instagram is filled with pictures of him doing outdoor activities, including sailing in Nantucket with his mother just before joining the show.
He is passionate about travel and language. He has been to Vietnam and studied abroad in Japan, which allowed him to become fluent in Japanese and Chinese. Outside of fitness and travel, he appears to be very close to his family, often posting about them on social media.

While Carl’s arrival has sparked excitement, it also adds uncertainty to Aniya’s relationship with KC Chandler. Before her final conversation with Carl, Aniya admitted to Melanie that she still missed KC, suggesting she remains conflicted. Meanwhile, KC appeared to form his own connection with Casa Amor newcomer Tierra “Titi” Davis, with the two also agreeing to share a bed. KC had previously described his relationship with Aniya as a pairing “by default,” raising questions about his loyalty.
With the Casa Amor recoupling approaching, the islanders will soon have to choose whether to stick with their original partner or twist with someone new. If an islander ends up single after the recoupling, they risk being dumped from the island. Carl has quickly become one of the contestants who could determine the fate of one of the season’s most talked-about original couples.
