Picking Up From a Tense Cliffhanger
The new episode follows directly on from the major cliffhanger at the end of Episode 4. The situation left James and Ruby in a precarious position after James’s father, Mortimer, returned home unexpectedly. Mortimer has made it clear he disapproves of James’s relationship with Ruby and wants his son to marry someone from a wealthier family. The episode ended with James and Ruby desperately trying to avoid being seen by Mortimer as all three were heading towards the house, creating a highly charged and dangerous scenario for their relationship.
Episode 5, “Deceptive Lightness,” is expected to deal with the heavy consequences of this event. James will be shown fighting his inner demons and dealing with the overwhelming influence of his father. Meanwhile, Ruby’s own new venture, which surprised everyone in the previous episode, is set to make her story more dynamic and redirect her personal plot. Viewers should prepare for heightened emotions, major clashes between characters, and shifting alliances as the season moves toward its conclusion.
The second season is based on “Save You,” the second book in Mona Kasten’s bestselling novel series. The story follows Ruby as she tries to recover from James’s betrayal and rebuild her life, while a remorseful James does everything he can to win her back.
“James is fighting for stability,” actor Damian Hardung said about his character’s journey this season. “Like all of us, he needs reference points โ something in life he can hold onto. His own visions of the future don’t help him because they simply don’t exist.”
Regarding Ruby’s path, actress Harriet Herbig-Matten explained that this season is about “setting boundaries and healing, about letting someone go.”
