What Happened in Episode 9: ‘Teeth and Tissue’

The finale follows an eventful ninth episode that set several dangerous plots in motion. Mike was focused on one goal: securing his brother Kyle’s release from prison. To do this, he made a deal with Assistant District Attorney Evelyn Foley. Mike promised to deliver a major criminal, Detroit kingpin Frank Moses, in exchange for Kyle’s freedom.

Mike’s plan involved using Lamar, the soldier who killed Frank’s right-hand man LJ, as bait. He intended for Frank to take revenge on Lamar, giving the police a reason to arrest Frank. The scheme worked in partโ€”Frank killed Lamar and was taken into custody, leading to Kyle’s release. However, Kyle remains in a deep depression, struggling with the death of his wife, Tracy, and relying on pain pills.

Meanwhile, chaos erupted inside the prison. A disturbed corrections officer, Will Breen, snapped under pressure and went on a shooting spree in the AdSeg unit. He was stopped by officer Cindy, who shot him before he could harm Kyle. This violent outburst highlighted the deteriorating control under Warden Nina Hobbs, whose authority has weakened significantly this season.

The episode ended with Mike, Kyle, Ian, and Stevie being ambushed by masked gunmen at a diner. The attackers, who appear to be from Frank Moses’s Detroit crew, opened fire, leaving the fate of the main characters unknown as the screen cut to black.

What to Expect in the Season 4 Finale ‘Belly of the Beast’

The official description from Paramount+ outlines the two central threads of the finale:

โ€œMike fights to prevent Kyle from following in his footsteps and confronts the demons of his past; Hobbs makes a crucial decision. Season finale.โ€

Mike’s Fight for Kyle
Mike’s primary mission will be to stop his brother from descending into the same violent, cyclical life that has defined his own. With Kyle out of prison but grieving and unstable, Mike will confront his own past actions and their consequences in an effort to save his brother’s future. This internal and external battle forms the emotional core of the episode.

Hobbs’s Crucial Decision
Warden Nina Hobbs, whose tenure has been marked by increasing disorder and pressure from the Colombian cartel, will reach a breaking point. The synopsis confirms she will make a “crucial decision” that could have significant repercussions for the power balance within Kingstown’s prison system.

Unresolved Threats
The finale must also address the direct threats left by episode nine. The identity and motives of the masked shooters who attacked the diner will be revealed. Furthermore, the fallout from Frank Moses’s arrest and the ongoing power vacuum in the city’s criminal underworld will need to be addressed.

Where to Watch All of Season 4

Every episode of Mayor of Kingstown Season 4, including the finale, is exclusive to the Paramount+ streaming service. There are no free streaming options for this series currently. The season consists of ten episodes, each with a runtime of approximately 49 to 51 minutes.

Will There Be a Season 5?

As of now, Paramount+ has not made an official announcement about renewing Mayor of Kingstown for a fifth season. The show’s future likely depends on viewership numbers for the fourth season. However, star and executive producer Jeremy Renner has suggested in the past that the creative team has a planned ending for the series that extends beyond season four. This episode is intended as a season finale, not a series finale.

The production is one of several Paramount+ series from co-creator Taylor Sheridan, who recently signed a new deal with NBCUniversal. Despite this, it is reported that his existing projects with Paramount are expected to continue.
