The upcoming DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has revealed its full cast, with Milly Alcock starring as Kara Zor-El and Jason Momoa making a surprise appearance as the alien bounty hunter Lobo. The movie, directed by Craig Gillespie, is set to release on June 26, 2026, and will be the second installment in the new DCU after Superman (2025).

Alcock, known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, will portray a darker and more hardened version of Supergirl compared to previous adaptations. The film is based on the 2022 comic book miniseries by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, which follows Kara on a revenge-driven journey across the galaxy.

The Confirmed Cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

The full cast list includes some big names and exciting newcomers. Milly Alcock takes on the lead role as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, a character who debuted in a cameo in Superman (2025). Unlike her cousin Superman, Kara grew up on a fragment of Krypton, witnessing tragedy before arriving on Earth.

James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, explained, “We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock…and watched everyone around her die.”

Joining Alcock is Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl seeking revenge for her father’s death. Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts plays the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man responsible for Ruthye’s loss. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham will portray Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, adding emotional depth to Kara’s backstory.

The biggest surprise is Jason Momoa’s cameo as Lobo, a ruthless alien mercenary. Momoa, who previously played Aquaman in the DCEU, confirmed his casting in December 2024 after years of fan speculation.

Momoa once said, “If they call me and ask me to play him, it’s a f–k yeah…it’s the perfect role.”

The Story Behind Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

The film follows Kara as she travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with her dog Krypto. Along the way, she meets Ruthye and gets pulled into a violent quest for vengeance. The story is inspired by Tom King’s comic, which explores a grittier, more complex version of Supergirl.

Originally titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the movie was later shortened to just Supergirl. Director Craig Gillespie (known for I, Tonya and Cruella) brings his unique style to the project, while writer Ana Nogueira adapts King’s story for the big screen.

Filming took place in England, Scotland, and Iceland, wrapping up in May 2025. A behind-the-scenes photo of Alcock in her Supergirl costume was briefly shared online, showing a classic comic-accurate suit with a red skirt, blue top, and the iconic S-shield.

How Supergirl Fits Into the New DC Universe

This film is a key part of DC Studios’ rebooted universe, labeled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. After Superman (2025), Supergirl will expand the cosmic side of the DCU, introducing new characters and settings.

Fans got their first look at Alcock’s Supergirl in Superman, where she made a memorable entrance—drunk and reclaiming her dog, Krypto. The scene set up her rebellious personality, which will be explored further in her solo movie.

With a mix of action, emotion, and sci-fi adventure, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow promises to be a standout entry in the DCU. The cast, story, and creative team have generated significant excitement, making it one of the most anticipated superhero films of 2026.
