Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is breaking records at the BFI IMAX in London. The film’s massive popularity has forced the theater to add early morning screenings and delay the release of How to Train Your Dragon.

The action-packed finale to the long-running franchise has sold out nearly all its shows. Due to soaring demand, BFI IMAX has introduced 9 a.m. screenings—a rare move for a blockbuster. The theater has also pushed back the debut of How to Train Your Dragon from June 6 to June 9, giving The Final Reckoning three extra days on the premium screen.

Despite high ticket prices—between $32.30 and $37.70—fans are flocking to see the film in IMAX. This success contrasts with Dead Reckoning Part One, which struggled in 2023 due to competition from Barbie and Oppenheimer.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the eighth film in the franchise and a direct sequel to Dead Reckoning Part One. Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt, leading his team against a rogue AI called The Entity. The star-studded cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Angela Bassett.

The film’s production faced major delays due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming took place in England, Malta, South Africa, and Norway, with a budget estimated at $300–400 million. This makes it one of the most expensive movies ever made.

The movie premiered in Tokyo on May 5 and later screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Since its global release on May 23, it has earned $231.5 million worldwide, ranking as the seventh highest-grossing film of 2025 so far. It also set a new franchise record for the biggest opening weekend.

To promote the film, Tom Cruise made headlines by climbing the roof of the BFI IMAX in London. He was also honored with the BFI Fellowship, recognizing his contributions to cinema.

“I am truly honored by this acknowledgment,” Cruise said about the award. “I’ve been making films in the UK for over 40 years and have no plans to stop.”

The film’s success comes despite mixed reviews. Some critics praised its action sequences, while others found it overly long. Still, fans are turning up in huge numbers, proving the enduring appeal of Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible series.
