The cast for the second season of Paramount+’s hit series MobLand is growing. British actors Johnny Flynn and Ophelia Lovibond have officially joined the show as new series regulars for the upcoming season. The news comes as production is actively underway in London, building on the major success of the show’s first season.

New Faces in London’s Criminal Underworld

While the specific characters Johnny Flynn and Ophelia Lovibond will play are being kept secret, their casting signals an expansion of the show’s gritty world. Both actors are well-known in the UK for their versatile work.

Flynn is recognized for his roles in films like Beast and Emma, and for playing a young David Bowie in the biopic Stardust. Lovibond has appeared in major franchises, with roles in Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy, and recently starred in the comedy series Minx.

The announcement has generated excitement among fans, with many curious about how these new characters will fit into the existing power struggles. One fan comment on social media highlighted the strength of the existing cast, noting, “As long as Hardy returns, without him I think the show falls apart… If Hardy isn’t there it goes from entertaining to just plain silly”.

A Full Roster of Returning Stars

The new actors will be joining a massive ensemble of returning talent from the first season. Leading the pack back are Tom Hardy as the fixer Harry Da Souza, Pierce Brosnan as mob boss Conrad Harrigan, and Helen Mirren as the formidable matriarch Maeve Harrigan.

Other key players confirmed to return include Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Emmett Scanlan, and Teddie Allen. In a recent interview, Joanne Froggatt, who plays Harry’s wife Jan, shared her enthusiasm about returning to the set.

“I’m so looking forward to going back to film Season 2 of MobLand. I loved, loved, loved it. I mean, it was such a great script and such a great character. Just incredible cast,” she said. Froggatt also added, “I always wanted to play a gangster’s wife or a gangster, and then she came my way”.

Additional returning cast members deepening the story include Janet McTeer as international crime boss Kat McAllister, Toby Jones as retired detective Colin Tattersall, and Alex Fine as Kat’s henchman, Donnie.

Production is Officially Underway

Fans won’t have to wonder about the status of the new season. Filming for MobLand Season 2 began in late October 2025 and is currently ongoing in London. The production was officially confirmed when the show’s social media accounts posted a clapperboard photo in November with the caption, “Momentary blissness. #MobLand Season 2 is now in production”.

The quick move into production follows the show’s impressive performance. Paramount+ renewed MobLand in June 2025, shortly after its first season ended. The series proved to be a major hit for the streamer, with its premiere episode amassing 26 million views in its first 70 days in English-speaking markets. This made it the second-biggest launch of an original series for Paramount+, only behind the show Landman. The series also consistently ranked in Nielsen’s Top 10 list of streaming originals for five consecutive weeks.

The Creative Team Behind the Chaos

The creative vision for the series remains consistent heading into the new season. MobLand was created by writer Ronan Bennett and is executive produced by filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who also directed episodes in the first season. Their continued involvement ensures the show maintains its specific tone of sharp, stylish criminal drama set against the backdrop of London.

The series is commissioned by Paramount+ and produced in association with Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios. Other executive producers include star Tom Hardy, David C. Glasser, and Jez Butterworth.

What to Expect in Season 2

The first season finale left the criminal landscape of London dramatically altered. The war between the Harrigan and Stevenson families reached a violent peak, resulting in major betrayals and shifts in power. With key characters like Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell) and Brendan (Daniel Betts) killed off, the door is open for new alliances and rivalries to form.

One of the biggest revelations was the discovery that Eddie Harrigan (Anson Boon) is actually Conrad’s son, making him Kevin Harrigan’s half-brother and positioning him as a volatile new player in the family dynamics. Meanwhile, Tom Hardy’s Harry Da Souza was left in a precarious position after being accidentally stabbed by his wife, Jan, fracturing their relationship.

With this turbulent foundation, the addition of Johnny Flynn and Ophelia Lovibond suggests the world of MobLand is set to grow even more complex and dangerous. While an official release date for Season 2 has not been announced, the current production schedule suggests a potential premiere in 2026. The entire first season is available to stream now on Paramount+.
