In the final season of My Hero Academia, the battle for the world’s future has narrowed to a single, devastating fight. With the villain All For One defeated, the fate of everyone now rests on Izuku Midoriya’s struggle against Tomura Shigaraki. The newest episode, which released on November 8, 2025, shows Deku embarking on a desperate and costly planโ€”not to destroy the villain, but to save the person trapped inside.

The episode, titled “Wrench it Open, Izuku Midoriya!” sees Deku making an incredible sacrifice. After losing one of his own powers in the previous fight, he has chosen to weaponize his inherited Quirk, One For All. His new goal is to force his own powers into Shigaraki, aiming to break open the villain’s hardened soul from the inside.

The Desperate Strategy to Reach a Human Heart

The current battle between Deku and Shigaraki took a critical turn in the prior episode. During their fight, Shigaraki managed to steal the Danger Sense quirk, one of the several abilities Deku possesses within One For All. This loss left Deku at a severe disadvantage, as he could no longer sense incoming attacks.

However, this event led to a crucial discovery. Kudo, one of the past users of One For All whose spirit resides within the quirk, noticed a small crack within the core of hatred that fuels Shigaraki. This weakness cannot be healed, even by Shigaraki’s powerful regeneration. This gave Kudo a radical idea: if Deku could not win with physical strength, he might succeed by attacking Shigaraki’s mind.

The plan involves Deku forcibly transferring the individual powers of One For All into Shigaraki’s body. Each transfer is meant to be a targeted strike against the crack in his psyche, aiming to widen it and create an opening to the human heart that Deku believes still exists within the villain.

A Costly Power Transfer Begins

Episode 6 picks up at this critical moment. Deku, using the Blackwhip quirk to reinforce his body, prepares to launch his risky plan. The first power he intends to transfer is Gearshift, the quirk originally belonging to Kudo. The end of the previous episode showed Deku’s fist glowing with this power, ready to make contact.

This strategy is not a simple attack. Transferring One For All in this way is a one-way process. For Deku, it means willingly giving up the very powers that make him a hero. He is risking the permanent loss of his abilities for a chance to save Shigaraki and stop the destruction. The official synopsis for the episode questions whether Deku’s fists, “unleashed with a ferocious presence,” can finally reach the man inside the villain.

The Thematic Clash of Hope Versus Despair

This confrontation is more than a physical battle; it is the culmination of the central theme of My Hero Academia: the struggle between hope and despair. Shigaraki represents pure destruction, having fully embraced his hatred and consumed the crying child he once was. In contrast, Deku represents the unwavering belief in salvation, refusing to give up on anyone.

Deku’s transformation during this fight, referred to by some as “Carnage Mode,” is a visual representation of this conflict. It is a state that blends his rage at the situation with his compassion for his enemy, creating a perfect mirror to Shigaraki’s decay. It symbolizes creation versus destruction, the core ideological war that the series has been building towards for years.
