A recent variety show appearance by NCT DREAM has sparked intense discussion among fans, after the members shared surprisingly different answers to a difficult question: what would you do if you found out a friend was being cheated on? The range of responses, from firm moral stands to cautious hesitation, has divided fans online.
The conversation took place on the popular program Idol Human Theater, where the group is known for responding to challenging and often personal prompts.
The Members’ Stances
The members of NCT DREAM did not have a unified answer, revealing a clear split in their approaches to the sensitive situation.
Mark and Jaemin presented the most decisive viewpoints. Mark stated absolutely that he would tell his friend, while Jaemin was even more resolute. He firmly expressed that he would inform his friend no matter the potential outcome, even if it meant the friendship could end. He defended his position with clear logic.
Jaemin said, “if youโre going to cheat, just break up and date someone new. i donโt get those people. i honestly think telling my friend is the right move. because logically, cheating is just wrong, isnโt it? all iโm doing is telling my friend something i personally witnessed.”
On the other side of the debate, Haechan and Jeno argued for a more cautious approach. Haechan explained that he would not get involved, as he wanted to avoid a “messy situation.” Jeno supported this logic, reasoning that inserting oneself into a friend’s relationship could potentially cause problems for the friendship itself. Chenle offered a middle-ground perspective, sharing that his own father had cautioned him that getting involved might not always be the best course of action.
Fan Reactions and Online Debate
The members’ contrasting opinions quickly spilled over onto social media, where fans began passionately defending their chosen stances. Many viewers sided with Jaemin, praising him for his firm and empathetic position.
One fan online strongly agreed with this view, writing, “nah, these men piss me off sometimes.. jaemin is truly the only sensible and empathetic person in the room, istg. wdym you donโt want to get involved?? thatโs YOUR friend whoโs being betrayed by their significant other!”
Other fans expressed similar sentiments, saluting Jaemin for his clarity and stating that a friend who cheats would no longer be their friend. The debate highlights the complex nature of friendship and morality, showing that even within a close-knit group, perspectives on handling betrayal can vary greatly.
Renjun’s Past Advice to a Cheated-On Fan
This is not the first time an NCT DREAM member has addressed the topic of cheating. In a previous episode of his radio show Akdong Seoul, Renjun offered counsel to a fan who had just discovered her boyfriend was unfaithful.
A sad expression appeared on his face as he read the fan’s comment, which stated, โTonight, I found out my boyfriend has been cheating.โ He took a moment to carefully consider his words before responding. Renjun suggested that the source of cheating is often not about an attraction to another person, but a breakdown in the original relationship.
Renjun shared, “I said this on the radio a lot, butโฆ Itโs not a problem that they like someone elseโฆ but they shouldโve been honest. Communication is necessary.”
He emphasized that the boyfriend was wrong both for cheating and for hiding it. Unlike the hypothetical debate on the variety show, Renjun’s focus was on supporting the fan, telling her “Fighting! Iโll be rooting for you” regardless of whether she decided to end the relationship or try to repair it.

A History of Strong Opinions
Jaemin’s firm stance during the recent show is consistent with his past comments. At a earlier fan sign event, a fan asked what he would do if his hypothetical younger sister’s boyfriend cheated on her. Jaemin’s response was immediate and severe: “Iโll have to go kill him.” He delivered the line with a handsome smile, creating a striking contrast between his words and his expression. Fans found that his strong protective instincts only made him more attractive.
The recent discussion on Idol Human Theater continues to generate comments, proving that the question of how to be a good friend in a difficult situation has no easy answer.
