Fans have their first full look at a major new character coming to the live-action One Piece. Netflix released a new image showing Callum Kerr as Captain Smoker, the formidable Marine who will challenge the Straw Hat pirates in the upcoming season. The picture also features Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, Smoker’s trusted subordinate. This reveal gives the clearest view yet of the character’s live-action design ahead of the show’s return in 2026.
The new image appears to be a scene from Loguetown, a key location from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga where the second season will begin. In it, Smoker and Tashigi are shown deep in conversation. Kerr’s look stays very true to the source material, featuring the character’s signature white blonde hair, an open jacket with cigars strapped to it, and a stern expression.
Smoker’s Role in the Story
In the world of One Piece, Captain Smoker is a powerful Marine stationed in Loguetown. He is known for his relentless pursuit of pirates, making him a significant obstacle for Luffy and his crew as they prepare to enter the Grand Line. His nickname comes from his ability to control, create, and transform into smoke, a power granted by his Logia-type Moku Moku no Mi Devil Fruit.
This power makes him a uniquely challenging opponent for Luffy. Smoker is also defined by his strong personal code of justice, which often puts him at odds with the more rigid doctrines of the Marine leadership. He is one of the first truly formidable and complex Marines that Luffy encounters on his journey.
A Growing Cast of Characters
The introduction of Smoker and Tashigi is just one part of a major expansion for the show’s second season. Netflix has confirmed a long list of new cast members who will bring fan-favorite characters to life.
New actors joining the adventure include Werner Coetser and Brendan Murray as the giant warriors Dorry and Brogy, who were also shown in recently released images. The cast also features Joe Manganiello as the sinister Mr. 0 and Lera Abova as the mysterious Miss All-Sunday.
Other confirmed cast members are Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, and Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine. Katey Sagal will play Dr. Kureha, with Mikaela Hoover set to portray the beloved reindeer Tony Tony Chopper.
