Fans of Simon Barry, the creator behind the cult hit Warrior Nun, have a new project to follow. Barry’s production company is developing a new detective thriller titled Time of Death, a project that emerges from a new partnership deal.
Time of Death will follow a haunted detective who, after spending a decade chasing Britain’s most elusive serial killer, relocates to Vancouver. Just as he tries to start anew, he becomes convinced that his old nemesis has resurfaced in the unfamiliar city. As he takes on new cases, his relentless obsession threatens to pull him back into the darkness he thought he had left behind.
The series is one of the first projects to come from a formal scripted production deal between Canadian companies Omnifilm and Barry’s Reality Distortion Field.
The Story and Creative Team
The logline for Time of Death promises a character-driven thriller. The detective’s attempt at a fresh start in Vancouver is upended by the chilling suspicion that his past has followed him. This sets the stage for a tense narrative where his professional duties and personal fixations collide.
The series is being developed by Simon Barry and his company, Reality Distortion Field (RDF). Barry is best known for creating the sci-fi series Continuum and serving as the showrunner for the Netflix fantasy series Warrior Nun. This new project is part of a broader creative slate. Another series, My Homicide, is also in development. Created by Bruce Ramsay, My Homicide is a procedural about a brilliant detective haunted by his wife’s unsolved murder who partners with an AI version of himself to solve impossible crimes.
A Strategic Production Partnership
The development of Time of Death is a direct result of a partnership forged in November 2025 between Omnifilm and Barry’s Reality Distortion Field. The deal is designed to combine the strengths of both companies to shepherd scripted projects from initial idea to final delivery.
Under this agreement, RDF will provide creative oversight and development, leveraging Barry’s experience and industry relationships. Omnifilm will handle the physical production, post-production, financing, and administration. The companies have also brought on scripted consultant Alexandra Finlay to help guide the slate of projects.
