Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have ended their relationship after nearly two decades of marriage. The couple, known as one of Hollywood’s most enduring pairs, have reportedly been living apart since the beginning of the summer.
The Decision to Separate
The separation appears to be a one-sided decision. Multiple sources confirm that Keith Urban moved out of the family’s Nashville home and has acquired his own residence in the city. The split was not mutual, with reports indicating that Nicole Kidman did not want the separation and had been fighting to save the marriage. A source close to the couple stated that Kidman was “trying to keep the relationship together for the children but it hasn’t worked out.”
The couple was last seen together publicly in June at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville. Just days later, on their 19th wedding anniversary, Kidman shared a photo of them on Instagram with the caption, “Happy Anniversary Baby.” The recent nature of these happy public appearances has contributed to the surprise surrounding the split.
A Look Back at Their Relationship
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban first met at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles in January 2005. Their connection was swift; they were engaged by May 2006 and married the following month in Sydney, Australia.
Their nearly 20-year marriage was not without its challenges. Early in their union, Urban faced personal struggles, entering rehab for drug and alcohol addiction just months after their wedding. The couple has spoken openly about how this difficult period ultimately strengthened their bond. Urban has credited Kidman with supporting him through his recovery, saying:
“If you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl. Nic pushed through every negative voice โ I’m sure even some of her own โ and she chose love.”
Their relationship was often characterized by public displays of mutual support. As recently as 2024, Urban honored Kidman at the AFI Life Achievement Award tribute to her, where he shared, “She’s the one that I was searching for my whole life, and everything not only changed but had to change in me if I was gonna go that road.”
Family Life and Current Situation
Kidman and Urban share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. The children are currently living with Kidman in the family’s Nashville home. Kidman is also mother to two older children, Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, whom she adopted during her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
The couple had established a family life in Nashville, which Kidman described in a 2019 interview, saying, “My roots are deeply embedded here. Our house is always full of kids.” This move to Nashville was a conscious decision to build a life away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Urban is currently on his High and Alive World Tour, with performances scheduled through October. Kidman recently wrapped production on the sequel “Practical Magic 2” with Sandra Bullock. The separation comes two months after Kidman applied for residency in Portugal, though sources indicated Urban’s absence from the application was due to tour scheduling conflicts, not marital issues.
It remains unclear whether the separation will lead to a formal divorce. No official statements have been released by representatives for either Kidman or Urban.
