The summer comedy lineup is getting a fresh addition. Hulu announced the release details for Not Suitable for Work, the new series from creator Mindy Kaling. The streaming service also shared the first official photos from the show.

The single-camera comedy follows a group of young professionals in New York City. They are trying to build their careers while finding time for their personal lives. The show will arrive on Hulu just as summer begins.

Not Suitable for Work Premieres on Hulu Starting June 2

Hulu set the Not Suitable for Work release date for June 2. The series will launch with its first three episodes on that day. After the premiere, two new episodes will drop each week. The season finale is scheduled for June 23.

This weekly release pattern gives viewers time to follow the story. The show will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the United States. International audiences can watch it on Disney+.

The timing puts the show in a prime summer slot. Kaling shared the news on her Instagram account along with first-look images. She wrote, “I’m really proud of this one” and described the show as “funny and romantic” about “ambitious people who still believe in love.”

Meet the Cast Playing the Five Twenty-Somethings

The series centers on five main characters. Ella Hunt plays AJ Pascarelli. She is a first-year analyst at a top investment bank in New York. The character is described as charming but intense.

Avantika takes on the role of Abhinaya “Abby” Chilukuri. Her character works as an assistant to a demanding celebrity stylist. Abby loves fashion and knows how to navigate the industry.

Will Angus plays Davis Beau Bradley Barrett III. He is a high-energy finance professional. Under his outgoing personality, Davis just wants love and connection.

Jack Martin portrays Josh Teitelbaum. Nicholas Duvernay plays Kel Washington, a medical student who dreams of becoming an actor. Jay Ellis joined the cast as Bill Gibson, a powerful investment banker.

Star-Studded Recurring Guest Cast Adds Depth

The show brings in many familiar faces for recurring roles. Ego Nwodim, who recently left Saturday Night Live, plays Kate Woodson. She is the Assistant Head of School at a private girls school in Manhattan.

Constance Wu portrays Vanessa Hsu, an intense celebrity stylist. Victor Garber plays Wes Dryden, host of a prestigious investigative journalism show. Greg Germann takes on the role of David Teitelbaum, Josh’s father and a powerful media chairman.

Judy Gold plays Paula, a longtime producer on the Wes Dryden show. Harry Richardson appears as Austin Blanchett, a movie star described as an “internet boyfriend.” Laura Bell Bundy plays AJ’s mother, Amy Pascarelli.

May Hong and Bhavesh Patel play Jocelyn and Dileep, associates at an investment bank. Emilia Suárez plays Elena, an intern at The Wes Dryden Show. Michael Benjamin Washington portrays Antoine, a landlord who wants to dance.

What the Show Is About and Who Is Making It

The story takes place in Murray Hill, a neighborhood in Manhattan. The five young adults work in different fields. Some are in finance, others in fashion or medicine. They all share the same struggle. They want to succeed at work but also want happiness in their personal lives.

The first-look photos show the cast in different settings. Some scenes take place in corporate offices. Others show the characters on the streets of Murray Hill.

Charlie Grandy serves as showrunner and executive producer. He worked with Kaling before on The Mindy Project and The Sex Lives of College Girls. Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment also executive produces. Kaling International produces the series with Warner Bros. Television.

The show adds to Kaling’s growing list of TV projects. She created The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever, The Sex Lives of College Girls, and Running Point.

The first season will run for a limited time. With three episodes on June 2 and two each week after, the finale arrives quickly on June 23. Viewers in the US can watch on Hulu. International fans need Disney+ to see the show.
