Pachinko Season 2 Episode 7 was released on October 3, 2024, and continues to follow the journey of Kim Min Ha and Lee Min Ho in this emotional, multi-generational story.

Recap

In this episode, set in the 1990s in Tokyo, Naomi faces serious consequences as she’s accused of leaking information and gets fired. Meanwhile, Mozasu learns troubling details about Mr. Kato’s financial situation and warns his mother, Sun Ja, to stay away from him. However, Sun Ja brushes off her son’s concerns, expressing her loneliness and need for companionship.

As the story shifts to a different timeline, Noa is preparing to leave for Waseda University. The entire family gathers for a celebration, but Ko Han Su’s presence makes Sun Ja anxious as she fears Noa learning the truth. Tensions rise between Baek Yoseb and those around him due to his pent-up frustrations since returning from Nagasaki. Mozasu and Noa try to ease the situation by taking him to a children’s baseball game, which gives Yoseb some peace.

As the episode progresses, Mr. Kim prepares to leave, but Yoseb confronts him about his feelings for Kyunghee, encouraging him to pursue her. Mr. Kim refuses and chooses to stay loyal to his wife.

A pivotal moment occurs when Sun Ja and Han Su share their concerns as parents. Sun Ja worries about her son’s impending departure, while Han Su reveals his heartbreak over not being invited to his daughter’s wedding. Han Su’s father-in-law also faces a violent end, killed by a new seller in the marketplace.

Positives

  • The second half of the episode ties up several important storylines while setting the stage for the finale.
  • Performances from Kim Min Ha, Lee Min Ho, Jin Ha, and Youn Yuh Jung are outstanding, but the young actors playing Noa and Mozasu steal the spotlight with their emotional depth.
  • High production quality is evident in the costumes, sets, and props, immersing viewers in the time period and the emotional weight of the story.

Negatives

  • The episode might not cater to fans seeking fast-paced drama or cliffhangers, as it emphasizes emotional subtleties.
  • The blend of English, Japanese, and Korean may make it harder for some viewers to follow the dialogues smoothly.

Final Thoughts

Pachinko Season 2 continues to deliver, with Episode 7 offering closure on key plotlines while maintaining its emotional depth. The episode dives into personal relationships, unresolved feelings, and the complex bonds between characters. With strong performances and detailed storytelling, this episode further cements the series’ place as a classic in the making.
