Patrick J Adams chose not to appear in the Suits LA finale despite fan hopes for a Mike Ross return. The actor revealed he is busy with his Suits rewatch podcast and feels a cameo wouldnโt make sense right now.
Adams played Mike Ross in the original Suits for seven seasons. Fans expected him to join the spinoff, Suits LA, especially after Gabriel Macht reprised his role as Harvey Specter. However, Adams decided against it.
He said in an interview:
โYeah, if it made sense. I still keep in touch with all those guys. Aaron [Korsh] is obviously running the show. So many other directors that I know are going to direct Suits LA and are still close friends of mine. So, never say never. I think for all of us, we just wanna make sure it was the right fit and a good story and that it made sense.โ
Adams is currently focused on his podcast, where he revisits episodes of the original Suits with co-star Sarah Rafferty. He mentioned enjoying this project more than returning for a brief appearance in the new show.
Suits LA stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor. The series also features Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg. Macht appeared in three episodes, sparking speculation that other original cast members might follow.
Adams previously opened up about leaving Suits in 2018 due to struggles with mental health and alcohol. He said he was depressed and drinking too much during Season 7, which led him to prioritize his family over the show.
โI wasnโt taking good care of my mental health and I was drinking too much [at] the end of Season 7. I was in a zone of living a pretty unexamined life. Pretty miserable [and] I would say, pretty depressed. I didnโt have the tools to deal with that depression beyond just spending money and drinking too much, and not really knowing how to talk about it.โ
He added that quitting drinking was the best decision for his marriage and fatherhood. Adams shares two daughters with his wife, actress Troian Bellisario.
Despite his absence from Suits LA, Adams has not ruled out a future return. He said he would consider it if the story felt right. For now, he is happy with his podcast and upcoming projects like the BBC/Netflix series Lockerbie.
Suits became a streaming hit in 2023 after arriving on Netflix, breaking viewing records. Its success led to the creation of Suits LA, which premiered in February 2025. The original series ran for nine seasons from 2011 to 2019.
