Episode 1 Recap: A Drunken Night Leads to Life-Changing News

The story begins with Jang Hee-won waking up in a panic. She finds herself in bed next to a naked man she barely remembers. The show then flashes back to show how she got there. Hee-won first meets Kang Doo-joon at a fancy party where she is filling in for a friend. To avoid an awkward situation with her boss, Hee-won impulsively lies and introduces Doo-joon as her boyfriend, which immediately annoys the complete stranger she just dragged into her story.

The show reveals that both characters have personal reasons for avoiding marriage. Hee-won works hard as a product manager at a beer company but faces resentment from a jealous boss. Her personal life is also messy. She has held a long-time crush on her friend, Min-wook, only to discover he is secretly dating another close friend. After this heartbreaking discovery, a sad Hee-won gets splashed by a carโ€”driven by Doo-joon. In a funny moment, instead of a proper apology, Doo-joon simply hands her a large amount of cash, leaving her stunned.

Fate pushes them together again at another work event. This time, they have a genuine conversation over beer, bonding over their shared frustrations about work and life. The night of drinking leads to laughter, poor decisions, and ultimately, them sleeping together. Hee-won is so embarrassed the next morning that she quickly dresses, pays Doo-joon for the hotel room, and runs away. She tries to return to normal life, but everything changes when she takes a pregnancy test. Episode 1 ends with the shocking confirmation that Hee-won is pregnant from the one-night stand.

Episode 2 Recap: Unexpected Proposals and Conflicting Dreams

Episode 2 starts with a jarring proposal. Driven by a strong sense of responsibility, Doo-joon asks Hee-won to marry him. He believes it is the right thing to do for the coming baby. Hee-won, however, is rational and cautious. She flatly rejects his offer and tells him to go home and seriously reconsider his impulsive decision. It becomes clear that Doo-joon is starting to develop real feelings for Hee-won, while she remains focused on the practical complications.

“She obviously does not accept it and tells him to go home and think about it properly. This leaves both of them confused and conflicted.”

The episode digs deeper into Doo-joonโ€™s painful family history. Flashbacks show he was very close with his brother, but a tragic accident during a mountain climbing trip took his brother’s life. Doo-joonโ€™s sister-in-law now blames him for the death. In a manipulative move, she meets Hee-won pretending to be a kind stranger. She gently suggests that getting an abortion might be the best choice, but her real motive is to prevent Doo-joon from finding happiness and getting married.

Hee-won faces her own major crossroad. She receives the amazing news that she has been selected for a career opportunity in Germany, a dream she has always had. The pregnancy now forces her to choose between her big career break and becoming a mother. She considers raising the child alone but worries about the immense challenge it would be.

In a twist of fate, Hee-won and Doo-joon run into each other at their workplace, revealing they are colleagues. They are forced to have another private talk. Doo-joon makes a second proposal: a contractual marriage where they stay together strictly for the child’s benefit. Once again, Hee-won refuses, not wanting to be part of a relationship with no real love.

The pressure mounts when Hee-won visits her mother. Instead of support, her mother reacts coldly to the pregnancy news and tells her to end it. Seeking clarity, Hee-won visits a gynecologist and receives a medical surprise. She learns that due to a past diagnosis, it was very difficult for her to get pregnant. This means her current pregnancy is somewhat of a miracle. Episode 2 ends without a clear decision, leaving the audience wondering if Hee-won will keep the baby.

Cast and Characters Driving the Chaotic Romance

The chemistry between the two leads is central to the show’s early success. Oh Yeon-seo plays Jang Hee-won, a capable and hardworking woman whose life is upended by one chaotic night. She portrays Hee-won’s panic, sarcasm, and internal conflict in a relatable way that balances the drama’s humor and emotional weight. Choi Jin-hyuk plays Kang Doo-joon, a man who begins the story closed off but whose sense of duty and growing feelings make him awkwardly charming. His clumsy, straightforward proposals are played for laughs but also hint at his developing care for Hee-won.

The supporting cast adds more layers to the story. Hong Jong-hyun and Kim Da-som play key roles, though their full characters are still developing in these first episodes. Doo-joonโ€™s sister-in-law, played by another actress, is introduced as a significant antagonist whose actions create more trouble for the main couple.

Fan Reactions to the Premiere

Viewers who have seen the first episodes are talking about the relatable chaos. One fan on social media pointed out the unique premise, noting, “This might be the first drama I’ve seen where the plot is driven by a one night stand leading to pregnancy”. Another fan highlighted the ironic twists in Hee-won’s situation, mentioning her difficult past diagnosis making the pregnancy a “miracle” she never expected. The awkward workplace encounter at the gynecologist clinic was also noted as a particularly cringe-worthy and funny moment.

The series Positively Yours is scheduled to run for 12 episodes total, with new episodes releasing weekly. The show is directed by Kim Jin-seong and is based on the webtoon “์•„๊ธฐ๊ฐ€ ์ƒ๊ฒผ์–ด์š”” by Lee Jeong.
