Prime Video is changing how viewers will see the new Nicolas Cage Marvel series. Instead of making audiences wait week after week for new episodes, the streaming service confirmed all episodes of Spider-Noir will drop at once on May 27. This binge release model gives fans the choice to watch the entire first season in one sitting or take their time with the 1930s noir detective story .

The live-action series marks Nicolas Cage‘s first leading role in a television drama. He plays Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York who carries the weight of his past as the city’s only superhero known as “The Spider.” The show pulls from the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir but puts its own spin on the character and story .

Cage previously voiced the Spider-Noir character in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Now he brings a live-action version to screens with what producers describe as a grittier, more grounded take on the web-slinger .

Spider-Noir Release Date and Streaming Details

Spider-Noir will first air on the MGM+ linear broadcast channel in the United States on May 25, 2026. The global audience gets access two days later on May 27 when all episodes arrive on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories .

This dual release strategy gives traditional cable viewers a chance to watch first, while streaming subscribers worldwide can start their binge release experience on May 27. The series comes from Sony Pictures Television and is produced exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video .

Two Ways to Watch: Black and White or Color Version

Prime Video made an unusual creative choice with Spider-Noir. The entire series will be available in two different viewing formats .

Viewers can choose between:

  • Authentic Black & White: This version stays true to the classic film noir aesthetic of the 1930s setting
  • True-Hue Full Color: This option gives audiences the traditional full-color experience

The dual-format release honors the source material’s noir roots while giving modern audiences a colorized alternative. The original Spider-Man Noir comics featured a muted, monochromatic style that inspired this creative decision .

Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly: Not Your Typical Peter Parker

The series introduces Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a name that carries significant weight in Marvel Comics history. In the comics, Ben Reilly is a clone of Peter Parker who eventually takes on the Scarlet Spider identity. But the Spider-Noir series takes a different path with the character .

Show producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller kept details about why Cage plays Ben Reilly instead of Peter Parker under wraps for now. “I have to be coy about the reasons, because you’ll find out,” Lord told Esquire. “The reason he’s named Ben Reilly is explained. We’ll leave it at that,” Miller added .

In the show, Cage’s character is called “The Spider” rather than Spider-Man, which fits the noir detective tone. The teaser trailer gives a glimpse into his internal struggle with Cage saying in character, “The ticks. Thoughts. Impulses. I managed to suppress them. Most of the time” .

The story follows Ben Reilly as a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York. After a deeply personal tragedy, he walked away from his life as The Spider. Now an extraordinary case forces him to drop his ordinary man act and put the mask back on .

Full Cast Joins Nicolas Cage in Spider-Noir

The series brings together an ensemble cast alongside Nicolas Cage. The main cast includes :

  • Lamorne Morris (Fargo, New Girl) as Robbie Robertson
  • Li Jun Li (Sinners, Babylon) as Cat Hardy
  • Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives) as Janet
  • Abraham Popoola (Slow Horses)
  • Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire)
  • Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, Harry Potter)

Guest stars round out the 1930s New York world including Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster .

Creative Team Behind the Marvel Series

Spider-Noir brings together an award-winning creative team. Emmy-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) directed and executive produced the first two episodes .

Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series alongside the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse โ€” Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal .

Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis also serve as executive producers on the project .

The teaser trailer released in February 2026 gave audiences their first look at Cage as the weary detective and masked hero. The tagline “With No Power Comes No Responsibility” signals a different take on the usual Spider-Man message .

Spider-Noir adds another live-action entry to the growing Spider-Verse franchise and expands Prime Video‘s slate of comic book adaptations. With the full season available for binge release on May 27, viewers around the world can decide for themselves whether to watch in classic black and white or full color when the series debuts.
