Prime Video has launched “Reacher” Season 4 with a three-episode premiere that throws Jack Reacher straight into a political conspiracy after he witnesses a woman’s suicide on a Philadelphia subway. The new season adapts Lee Child’s 2009 novel “Gone Tomorrow,” the 13th book in the bestselling series, and marks a shift from the small-town settings of previous seasons to a fast-paced urban thriller.
The season opens with Reacher riding a Philadelphia subway at 2:18 a.m. when he notices a distressed woman clutching a bag. Drawing on his military police training, he identifies her behavior as consistent with a potential suicide bomber. When he approaches and claims to be a cop offering help, the woman—later identified as Anna Merrick—reveals she has a gun, not a bomb. She tells him “No one can help me now” before shooting herself in the head.
This single moment becomes the driving force of the season. Reacher carries the guilt of not being able to save her, and his determination to understand what drove her to that act pulls him into a web of secrets involving government officials, a missing flash drive, and people willing to kill to keep the truth buried.
The Investigation Begins
After the incident, Reacher is taken to the police station for questioning by Philadelphia detectives Tamara Green and Shaun Docherty. He quickly realizes they are stalling him until federal agents arrive from Washington, D.C. The agents are intensely interested in whether Anna gave Reacher anything before she died—specifically, a missing flash drive containing sensitive government documents.
The dead woman’s brother, Jacob Merrick, arrives and insists Anna would never have taken her own life. She loved her job, she loved her son Ben, and she was happy. Jacob’s refusal to accept the suicide narrative becomes the emotional center of the story, as his grief and fury drive the investigation forward.
Reacher soon discovers that Anna was a Pentagon employee working in the records department. Her death immediately raises questions: Why was she wearing a winter coat in the middle of the night? Where did she get the gun? And why are federal agencies so interested in a seemingly ordinary HR clerk’s death?
The Missing Flash Drive and Lila Hoth
Two men jump Reacher shortly after the police station interrogation, demanding the flash drive they believe Anna gave him. Reacher defeats them but now knows Anna’s death wasn’t a simple suicide. Someone is willing to hurt people to get their hands on whatever information she had.
The trail leads Reacher to Lila Hoth, a young Indonesian woman played by Indonesian singer Agnez Mo. Lila claims she has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant from her biological father, who she believes is Congressman John Sampson, a former Delta Force soldier now running for higher office.
Anna had been helping Lila trace her father. The flash drive supposedly contains documents proving Sampson is Lila’s father—information Anna planned to use to help Lila get the medical help she needed.
But when Reacher meets Sampson, the congressman denies any knowledge of Anna or Lila. He even spits in a glass to prove paternity, suggesting Anna’s suicide might be unrelated to him.
Darker Threads Emerge
The search for Anna’s missing son, Ben, becomes one of the premiere’s most troubling storylines. Jacob cannot reach his nephew, and when the team searches Ben’s fraternity house, they learn he left with an OnlyFans model the previous night. Tracking her apartment, they find she has been tortured and killed—confirmation that whoever is chasing this flash drive will eliminate anyone in their way.
Reacher Season 4 Episode 1 ends with Reacher being ambushed by men in suits and taken out with tranquilizers. Episode 2 reveals he was kidnapped by the CIA, alongside Tamara and Jacob. Reacher frees himself and his new partners, and the trio begins working together to locate the flash drive.
The team splits up, with Reacher heading to meet Sampson while Tamara and Jacob search Anna’s ransacked home. They discover Ben never showed up for football practice, deepening the mystery of his disappearance.
Episode 3 introduces another layer: journalist Russell Plum has been investigating a building where Anna died, suspecting it is connected to a CIA black site. By the end of the three-episode premiere, Reacher finds himself embedded in a conspiracy involving the CIA, a presidential hopeful, and ruthless enemies who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets.
What the Critics Are Saying
Early reviews for “Reacher” Season 4 have been positive, with critics praising the show’s ability to maintain its formula while introducing fresh elements. The first three episodes deliver the action, wit, and charisma that have made the series a hit.
The adaptation makes some notable changes from the source material. The setting shifts from New York City to Philadelphia, and the novel’s Russian antagonists are replaced with Indonesian characters. These changes allow the series to maintain the core of Child’s story while giving it a distinct identity.
Christopher Marquette has received particular praise for his performance as Jacob Merrick, bringing emotional weight to the grieving brother determined to find answers. Sydelle Noel also stands out as Detective Tamara Green, providing a grounded foil to Reacher’s larger-than-life presence.

“Reacher” Season 4 premiered with its first three episodes on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video. New episodes will drop weekly every Wednesday, with the eight-episode season concluding on September 16, 2026.

Prime Video has already renewed “Reacher” for a fifth season, announced in May 2026. Alan Ritchson revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that Season 5 will adapt Child’s 20th novel, “Make Me.” A spin-off series focused on Maria Sten’s character Neagley is also in development.
