The new episode, “Curiouser and Curiouser,” sees Ted Lasso back in London, where he must win over a resentful assistant coach and confront the challenges of coaching a women’s team.
The second episode of Ted Lasso Season 4 has arrived on Apple TV. Titled “Curiouser and Curiouser,” the episode dropped on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. It picks up right after the season premiere, with Ted back in Richmond and ready to take on his new role as head coach of AFC Richmond’s women’s team, the Lady Greyhounds.
Ted Settles Back Into Richmond Life
The episode opens with Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) waking up in England. He is staying in a room above The Crown and Anchor pub, run by the familiar neighborhood bartender Mae (Annette Badland). Some things have changed since he was last in London—he notices his shredded-wheat cereal is smaller—but other things remain the same, including the “wanker guy” who still shouts at him from the street.
Ted’s family, Michelle and Henry, will be joining him in a few days. For now, he focuses on his new job. He shows up to Rebecca’s office not with his usual biscuits, but with Kansas City barbecue instead, signaling that some things have shifted since his previous time at the club.
Rebecca Faces a Crisis Over Her Feminist Credentials
A major storyline in the episode involves Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) facing tough questions about her decision to hire a male coach for the women’s team.
Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift) presents Rebecca with a large report on the financial viability of the women’s team. The findings are not good—the report concludes that a women’s team would have a “low chance of long-term viability” and could hurt the men’s program as well.
Things get more complicated when assistant coach Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds) walks into Rebecca’s office and hands in her resignation. Chilton had been passed over for the head coach position, which went to Ted instead. She asks Rebecca directly if she ever considered any woman for the job. Rebecca admits she did not.
This question sends Rebecca into a spiral. She starts questioning whether she is a true feminist. She orders books by Bell Hooks, has lunch with her mother to discuss feminism, and quotes Eleanor Roosevelt. Her mother’s advice is blunt: “Why don’t you just fire this jealous hag?”
Higgins later offers Rebecca some perspective, telling her that “strong women stand up for themselves, and stronger women stand up for others”.
Ted Meets the Lady Greyhounds and Their Neglected Facilities
Ted arrives at AFC Richmond ready to meet his new team. He is disappointed to learn that Alice Chilton has resigned and will leave by the end of the week. Still, he remains determined to do his job.
When Alice introduces Ted to the Lady Greyhounds, he is shocked by the state of their facilities. The women’s team has been crammed into a small space with a single bathroom, and they share locker room space with the youth academy. Ted immediately recognizes that the team deserves better.
The team itself is full of interesting personalities. There is Josie Gordon, who stands out for her attacking ability. There are twins Niamh and Siobhan who play fullback positions. The goalkeeper, Boots (Jude Mack), refuses to wear gloves, saying she prefers the feel of the ball on her hands. Ted also briefly confuses a lesbian couple for sisters, showing he still has much to learn about his new players.
Ted’s Press Conference Gets Hijacked
Ted attends his first press conference since returning to Richmond. Before he can speak, Rebecca delivers a rambling speech about supporting women, which comes across as insecure rather than empowering.
When Ted finally takes the microphone, the journalists only ask him questions about the men’s team. They want to know his thoughts on AFC Richmond’s men’s side, not the women’s team he is now coaching. Ted eventually tells them he is no longer in touch with that side and wishes to focus on the women’s team. This confession leads to uncomfortable questions about the pay gap between the men’s and women’s teams.
Coach Beard Finds His Way Back to Ted
Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) has been working as an assistant under Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) with the men’s team. He clearly misses Ted and is seen watching Ted’s press conference on his phone.
Roy notices how much Beard wants to reunite with Ted. He tells Beard that he shouldn’t keep two people who want to be together apart. Roy then finds a trivial reason to fire Beard, allowing him to join Ted as his assistant coach once more.
Beard shows up at Ted’s door, overjoyed to share the news. However, his wife Jane watches with visible uncertainty about what this change might mean for their relationship.
Roy and Keeley’s Complicated Dynamic
Roy Kent and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) continue to navigate their complicated relationship.
Keeley pushes Rebecca for better facilities for the women’s team. She manages to get the Lady Greyhounds the visiting team’s locker room. Roy helps her remove the “booby traps” he had installed there to intimidate visiting teams.
Roy points out that they have not been alone together for ages. Keeley avoids the moment by pointing to a rat, suggesting she is not ready to address whatever is happening between them.
Ted Wins Over Alice Chilton
The emotional center of the episode belongs to Ted’s relationship with Alice Chilton.
Despite Alice’s cold and distant attitude, Ted approaches her with honesty rather than avoidance. He openly acknowledges what he has heard about her reputation without pretending otherwise.
When one of the players, Josie, suffers a serious ACL injury during practice, Alice immediately rushes to help. She later refers to the injured player as belonging to “our” team, a small but telling sign that she still sees herself as part of Richmond’s future.
Ted digs into Alice’s history and learns that she was once a promising player whose own career was cut short by injury. He appeals to her directly, asking her to stay as his assistant coach. He reveals that he knows the full extent of her story, a moment that genuinely moves her.
Alice ultimately decides to stay. The episode ends with Rebecca struggling to write a recommendation letter for Alice, unaware that Alice has already decided to remain with the team.
