Reasonable Doubt Season 3 Episode 4 recap: Friends or For

(

)

The latest episode of Reasonable Doubt reveals the identity of Ozzie Edwards’s childhood abuser, a discovery that changes everything in his murder case. In “Friend or Foe,” which dropped on October 2, 2025, Jax Stewart pushes for the painful truth to save her client, while her own family faces new turmoil with the unexpected return of her father, Eddie.

A Shocking Discovery in Ozzie’s Past

In a major breakthrough for the case, the person who se\ually abused Ozzie Edwards when he was a 13-year-old child star is finally revealed. The abuser is his manager, Monica, who has been exploiting him since he was a teenager.

The truth comes to light when Jax’s assistant, Daniel, finds and reads Ozzie’s personal journals. An entry details Ozzie’s feeling of betrayal and his struggle with his abuser. He wrote about finally being able to tell her “NO” for the first time since the abuse began. The journal context makes it clear that Monica is the person responsible for his long-term trauma. In a flashback scene, it is shown that even after Wendy’s death, Monica continued to visit Ozzie and take advantage of his vulnerable state.

This discovery follows a difficult decision by Jax to use Ozzie’s history of abuse as a central part of his defense. She convinced a reluctant Ozzie that sharing this story was necessary to gain sympathy from the jury. Before making it public in court, Jax insisted that Ozzie tell his parents. In an emotional scene, Ozzie tearfully informed them about the abuse, though he initially refused to name the perpetrator. His parents were heartbroken but supportive.

Daniel’s Investigation and Bond with Kristen

The investigation into the night of Wendy’s murder continues, with Jax and Daniel focusing on how Ozzie obtained drugs. They question his sister, Kristin, who admits she gave Ozzie drugs after Wendy’s death but did not supply him on the specific night Wendy was killed. She provides a lead on Ozzie’s former drug dealer, Byron.

Daniel, who has been tasked with keeping a close watch on Kristin, finds himself growing closer to her. Their bond deepens as they spend time together, even sharing a moment where Kristin rests her head on his shoulder. However, Ozzie notices their flirtation and warns his sister to stay away from Daniel, stating that he is part of the legal team and their relationship could be problematic.

It is during one of these conversations that Kristin inadvertently reveals Ozzie’s habit of keeping daily journals. This information leads Daniel to secretly search Ozzie’s house. He lies to Kristin to get inside and finds the box of journals under Ozzie’s bed, leading to the critical discovery about Monica.

New Tensions in Jax’s Family Life

Jax and Lewis’s home life becomes more complicated as their daughter, Naima, discovers the truth about Lewis’s past affair with Toni and the child they lost. Naima confronts her parents, angrily blaming them for hiding the truth and shouting, “Why do you guys like to ruin everything?” Both Naima and her brother, Spense, become distant and refuse to speak to Jax and Lewis.

During this family strife, Jax’s estranged father, Eddie, visits the children without their parents’ knowledge. He introduces himself to his grandchildren and talks with them about their anger. He helps them understand their parents’ perspective, which leads to Naima and Spense softening their stance and finally reconciling with Jax and Lewis.

While Jax sees this as a positive outcome, Lewis is furious that Eddie interfered. He confronts Eddie, leading to a heated argument. Lewis tells Eddie, “You talking to my kids about my business in my house.” Eddie refuses to back down, creating a new source of conflict for the family.

Jax’s Legal Strategy for Ozzie’s Defense

With jury selection underway, Jax formulates a clear strategy for Ozzie’s defense. She plans to portray him as a victim himselfโ€”a broken man who suffered childhood se\ual abuse and turned to drugs. She aims to argue that Wendy was his chance at a clean and happy life, and her death has destroyed him.

Jax outlines a theory for her team, stating that the drugs and abuse are key to their case. She proposes that Wendy was actually the victim of a random crime. Jax tells her team:

“Though Iโ€™ll say the drugs and abuse feel parallel. So, not only he is innocent in this random crime gone wrong, but also we can portray him as a broken man who was forced into a life of drug and se\ual abuse as a child. Then, after years of searching, he finally found someone who not only helped him get clean but also was committed to spending the rest of her life with him. Now, sheโ€™s dead.”

Her plan is to introduce a “drifter” as a new suspect, suggesting this person killed Wendy during an attempted robbery at the cabin using Ozzie’s gun.

Other Developments in the Story

The episode also follows several other storylines. At Lewis’s workplace, his new colleague, Sam, admits to lying on his resume about his coding skills. Lewis tries to help him by offering unpaid training, but Sam later manipulates the situation, putting Lewis’s own job in a difficult position.

Meanwhile, Bill continues to try and save his marriage to Kendra. He brings her flowers, but she rejects them, still angry that he has prioritized his career over his family. Later, he makes some progress by spending a dedicated weekend with their children, but their relationship remains strained.

During a girls’ night out, Jax’s friend Autumn reveals she is pregnant. The celebration is partly overshadowed when Jax and her friend Sally have a private argument about Sally’s separated husband.
