The MGM+ series “Robin Hood“ concluded its action-packed first season with a high-stakes finale where the outlaw’s clever thinking faced the brutal force of the crown. Episode 10, the season’s conclusion, saw Robert of Locksley, known as Robin Hood, and his band of rebels risk everything in their most ambitious strike yet against the Sheriff of Nottingham and his powerful new ally.
The episode brought together storylines from the entire season. Robert continued his quest for justice for his executed father. Marian faced danger from her own family to help the cause. The arrival of the ruthless royal knight Guy of Gisbourne created new threats for both the outlaws and the Sheriff himself. The finale delivered on intense action while setting the stage for future conflicts.
The Sheriff and Guy of Gisbourne Plan Their Attack
At Nottingham Castle, the Sheriff met with Guy of Gisbourne and the Earl of Huntingdon to finalize a strategy to eliminate Robin Hood. Gisbourne, sent by King Henry II, presented a plan he believed was foolproof.
His strategy was to march troops into the forest toward the cave where the outlaws were hiding. The goal was to force the rebels toward a canyon, trapping them with no escape. Gisbourne was confident, boasting about his experience as a Crusader and dismissing the outlaws as simple fighters who would easily panic.
The Sheriff, however, warned against underestimating Robin Hood. He knew from past encounters that Robert was a shrewd and dangerous opponent who was likely prepared for a direct assault. Despite his concerns, the Sheriff chose to keep quiet. He allowed Gisbourne and Huntingdon to proceed with their aggressive plan while secretly forming his own scheme to protect his position of power.
Robin Hood’s Daring Counter-Strategy
While the Norman forces plotted, Robert woke from a powerful dream about his father and the Saxon hero Aedric the Wild, who famously never surrendered. Inspired, he knew his outnumbered group could not win a direct fight against the soldiers. He needed a plan that used surprise and cleverness over strength.
“His plan is for all the outlaws to leave the cave and hide in the forest, letting the soldiers move towards the cave without the knowledge that it is now empty. Robin and his followers would then sneakily approach Nottingham and take the entire city hostage.”
Robert explained that while the Sheriff’s forces were busy attacking an empty cave in the forest, most of Nottingham’s guards would be gone. The city and its castle would be vulnerable. His band could seize control, attack the returning soldiers, and then escape back to the safety of the woods. The risky plan was ambitious, but his followers, including Friar Tuck, agreed to follow his lead.
Marian’s Dangerous Mission to Secure the Plan
For Robert’s strategy to work, timing was everything. The outlaws needed to know the exact moment the soldiers would begin their march. Marian volunteered for the dangerous task of finding out. She would return to her home, the Locksley estate, to spy on her father, the Earl of Huntingdon, who was involved in the planning.
Robert strongly objected, fearing for her safety, but Marian insisted it was the best way she could help. She returned home and pretended to regret choosing Robert over her family, saying she wanted to mend their relationship. Her act worked, and her father welcomed her back.
Through careful observation, Marian discovered a critical piece of information: additional military units were scheduled to march from Leicester to reinforce Nottingham during the operation. She managed to sneak this news to her ally Milange, but the mission ended in disaster. Her younger brother Aleppo may have warned their father. The Earl of Huntingdon tried to shoot Milange and then locked Marian in her room as a prisoner.
The Battle for Nottingham and a Secret Betrayal
With Marian’s information, the outlaws adjusted their plan. They left their cave on time and hid as the soldiers, led by the Sheriff and Gisbourne, marched past. The Sheriff sensed something was wrong due to the unusual quiet of the forest. When they found the cave empty, Gisbourne thought the rebels had simply fled.
The Sheriff, however, saw clues that suggested a more organized retreat. They soon found a rough sketch on the ground revealing Robin’s plan to attack Nottingham Castle, prompting the soldiers to rush back to the city.
Meanwhile, Robert and his men moved quickly. They took control of Nottingham and its castle with little resistance from the few remaining guards. As planned, they fired arrows at the returning soldiers before making their escape. A separate group, led by Friar Tuck, succeeded in destroying the bridge to Leicester to stop the reinforcements, though the mission cost the lives of Isabel and Gamewell.
Amid the chaos, the Sheriff executed his own secret plan. Fearing that Gisbourne’s success would get him removed from power, he betrayed the royal knight. He lured Gisbourne and his men into a secluded room under the false promise of a shortcut, where he killed them. He then framed the murder on Robin Hood and his outlaws. This act sealed a new, dark alliance with Queen Eleanor, who shares a goal of preventing King Henry II from leaving England alive.

A Final Confrontation and Unfinished Business
The finale built toward a second major confrontation between Robert and the Sheriff. As they fought, Robert was driven by revenge for his father’s death. However, he broke away from the fight upon realizing he had a more urgent priority: rescuing Marian from her father.
He raced to the Locksley estate, where the Earl of Huntingdon was preparing to kill his daughter for her betrayal. With help from Aleppo, who had switched to his sister’s side, Marian had already started to escape. Robert arrived and fought the Earl. Together, Robert and Marian defeated him, with Robert preventing Marian from delivering the final blow herself.
With the immediate battle over, the outlaws went into hiding among their communities, waiting for their next chance to fight. Robert finally distributed their stolen gold to the poor, fully embracing the “Robin Hood” legend. Marian returned to court and secured a promise of safety for Robert from Queen Eleanor, though the Queen also hinted at a new plan that will involve Marian in the future.
The season ends with the Sheriff still in power, now more dangerously connected to the Queen. Robin Hood and his band have won an important battle, proven their tactics, and grown their legend, but the war against the corruption of Nottingham is far from over.
