Renowned director Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently opened up in an interview about why he did not cast Ranbir Kapoor in his blockbuster film ‘Kabir Singh,’ following the success of his debut movie ‘Arjun Reddy’ in 2017.
After the success of ‘Arjun Reddy,’ Ranbir Kapoor had messaged Sandeep expressing interest in working together. However, at that time, Sandeep missed seeing the message. In a recent interview, Sandeep shared that Ranbir had reached out to him years before their collaboration in the 2023 Bollywood hit ‘Animal.’
‘Animal,’ which marked Ranbir Kapoor’s first venture into a violent role, became a blockbuster after the success of ‘Kabir Singh.’ In the interview, Sandeep revealed that Ranbir had messaged him years prior to their collaboration on ‘Animal.’
Speaking about the missed messages, Sandeep stated, “He (Ranbir) had sent me a text message. Since WhatsApp came into existence, I stopped checking text messages because everyone uses WhatsApp. Ranbir showed me his message, and I have missed messages from many people, including Anil Kapoor.”
After the success of ‘Arjun Reddy,’ Sandeep directed the sequel ‘Kabir Singh’ in 2019, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in lead roles. Sandeep clarified that Ranbir Kapoor was not cast in ‘Kabir Singh’ because Ranbir had clearly stated that he did not want to participate in any remakes. Sandeep mentioned, “No, Ranbir had clearly stated that he did not want to do any remakes. So, I was aware of that.”
This revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes decisions that directors make in the film industry, and it seems that Ranbir’s preference for original scripts played a role in the casting choices for ‘Kabir Singh.’
